Ace awning lights

Noticed the led strip was dim and some not working. I bought a brand new strip off ebay(7.99 shipped) and checked them when I received them by connecting directly to car battery worked great. Removed old strip( didn't like the blue color anyways) and put the new one up. Turned switch on and the same thing happened( barely lit up and some not on). So I took the old strip and connected directly to car battery and they worked great. I'm going to check voltage at the source tomorrow and see what's going on. I have read a lot off people saying there lights didn't work and I'm wondering if this is the same issue. Anybody know anything about this happening? Thanks

Are you using the same led power supply when you test the strip off the 12v battery? Could be a power supply issue depending on your testing.

It sounds like you have a poor power connection. Check the voltage on the awning where the lights connect and work your way back. You will probably find a crimp connection that is loose, corroded, or a wire not fully inserted. Electrical gremlins are sometimes tough to find. That has to be the problem, low voltage because they both work fine on another source.

Update. I checked voltage on both sides of switch and they are both 12v. At the end where the led plug is it's at 8.99v. I was going to trace the wire but you can only see where it goes in the side of the motorhome. Does anybody have a wire diagram for the ace 30.2? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

I would be willing to bet it goes straight up inside the wall then exits next to the awning. I can't imagine the wire having a splice so I would check where it exits the roof next to the awning, chances are you have a broken wire inside the insulation somewhere. Does your wiring run along side the awning after it unrolls? If so check voltage at roof and again at roller end with the awning extended. Again, I'm betting you have a broken wire inside the insulation and it's probably somewhere on the outside where there is motion. Best of luck!

Quick Question,
What type of adhesive did you us to attach the awning light strip?

Most LED dimming issues are a driver problem. Your light strip probably plugs into a driver, small block in the awning arm, that’s operated by the switch. The manufacturer will likely have a replacement for the diver.

No adhesive needed - it slides into a slot in the roller drum.
