Power from house batteries

Friends-we installed two new 12 volt batteries this spring. On our cross country trip the batteries stopped functioning and we ran off shore power at RV overnight sites. I have been told the batteries powered down to under 10 volts. Why did this happen? I thought the batteries charged while the engine was running and the power light near the steps was engaged? Any help appreciated. This is a Class C RV. (Chateau) Thank you

The batteries should charge while driving. Do you have a storage and use switch, if so be sure it’s in use while driving, and charging your system. There should also be a fuse , I think 15 amp near the batteries have you checked it yet?

Please also be sure after you replaced the batteries, the cables were placed back correctly.

We have a 2020 Chateau 24F, which uses a 2019 Ford chassis. If I remember correctly, there was a recall on our BIM, which was replaced by the dealer shortly after we got the MH in fall of 2019. Might want to inquire about that possibility.

I don't remember having any charging issues then... but we hadn't had the MH long enough to really find discover a problem.

Batteries

Thanks to all. I will explore those possibilities.
