Generator problem fixed.

2019 Thor ACE 29.3 with Onan 5500.

On a recent trip running A/C and fridge on generator I lost power to both.

Today I found the ATS wires from generator lost power to black wire (red wire had power).

Under the coach behind generator I found a junction box and the wire nut had melted for the black wires. I stripped the wires and installed a new wire nut and also snugged the other wire nuts in that box.

Everything working normal now. I wanted to post this in case it can help someone else.

Wire nut junctions seem to be the Thor installer's Achilles heel. Most problems occur at the ATS or the water heater 120 volt element.

The wire nut was cheap thin plastic and easily melted.

Now that I am thinking about it I am going to replace the other wire nuts in that box with better quality wire nuts.

Just wanted to follow up. I went back in to that junction box under the coach behind the generator and replaced the other three wire nuts and used some dielectric grease on the connections. I also used electrical tape on the wire nuts so they do not work loose gain.

I also used better quality wire nuts than the original that Thor used.

It might be a good idea to check these connections to prevent problems.
