Propane fill up

Hi Folks, where do you usually fill up your Motorhome mounted propane?

In the hole in the side of the propane tank.

I'm missing the reasoning of the question.

I'm missing the reasoning of the question.
A specific vendor in a specific geographic area?
Quality differentials in propane?

I fill wherever has propane, as I need propane.
I may be overthinking it.

Quantity is minimal, price differential is minimal....

I meant the place people usually take their Motorhome to get the propane tank filled, not the location on the Motorhome or tank.

Tractor Supply is a preference if there is one on the way or close by. Other than that, I make due.

U-Haul generally has very good pricing on propane and ez access.

Recently, Costco has added propane and is the best pricing i’m seeing in Southern California. I paid $2.49 (vs a local gas station in my town at $3.95)

I know, I know...
If I you can’t afford propane you have no business owning a Motorhome.
Same discussion as MPG.

I actually wish I had a larger propane tank
My Vegas tank is 40# = 9.4 gal
But they only fill it 80%
So that means I only have 7.5 gallons of propane

That's 2+g more than an external 20lb tank (4.73). If you're a large consumer of propane and have a way to move it around, consider 2-30lb tanks.

I installed an Extend-a-Stay. I use on-board for traveling and a 20lb'r for extended stays.

I boondock a lot more lately. I'm trying to learn something unrelated. I can assure you the extend-a-stay method works for me. I fill my tanks after every boondock experience. I used it for 10 days and the last pull was 2.2g from both tanks.

I'm not sure what, if anything is going on. Everything functions as I think it should. If those are expected results, I'm floored.

I don't know your capacity situation. If you share that, we might be in a better position to help.

Our storage lot also sells propane thus I just get it filled up when I pick it up for a trip...easy peasy.

You have nice roads here to spite the weather you get. UP. Nice country.

Thanks for asking
My point is...I liked the travel trailer concept I used to have. Two tanks, one runs out, then switch’s over automatically.
Then I know for sure that I’ve used 4 gallons, I have 4 gallons left, & I need to fill the empty tank.
I really prefer that concept vs these inaccurate Thor tank sensors.

In fact I’ve seen older RVs/Motorhomes that have the two tank concept where they are removable.
That’s appealing to me

I see a place to tap in an extend-a-stay if it interests you.

Extend a stay allows me to potentially, though I don't, carry two or three 20lb tanks in the rear basement. And I think the auto transfer switch can be adapted to a tank sitting on the ground or in the basement.
But.
I've measured my 24.1 for a larger single tank. I can easily with no mods, bolt a 50% larger tank in there and if I finish killing off my wet bay, I can mount a tank the size of the stock tank right there for two tanks where there is now but one.
The enclosure of the wet bay isn't needed. The stock tank can be moved forward enough to get a second one in there.
I looked hard, measured well, then got some miles to do a math check and then decided the cost of the tank wasn't worth having the extra propane.
This was the first mod I planned on for the 24.1.

We don't cook and we don't use the heater if we're at a park, so propane lasts us a surprising amount of time. The tank was $700ish and we don't use the tank we have in 19,000 miles.

(if you unbolt the fuse panels under the drivers seat in that bongo bin and move them slightly, I can fit a 80lb+- propane tank on that side.)
Take a good look, there isn't anything between the front wheel well and the gray tank valve which can't be easily moved. Swap the dump valves around a bit and you have another 11 inches.

Tractor Supply has worked for us in the past...
But we're always looking for options.
Some (not all...) RV Parks sell it also.

Tractor Supply near home has their propane supply in a fenced yard and the hose doesn’t reach! I don’t need a refill very often so I usually do it when it’s convenient and that is often at an RV park. Costs more, I’m sure, but it’s very convenient. I like to support small family businesses when I can. Pilot and Flying J often have good access and supply.

I don't think I can fall for the false economy of driving a single mile out of my way to purchase propane at a favorite or cheaper place.

Three miles to (name your tune), three miles back, my in town fuel mileage of maybe 4.5mpg, fifteen(or five} minutes out of the way, fifteen(or 30} back, in town traffic...for 4 gallons of propane at a dollar(or dime) a gallon savings?... I wouldn't do it if the propane were free.

Exactly the reason to not recommend ANY place with a blanket endorsement.
Propane is a:
As convenience found
Not
Find a favored source
Thing.
(home turf excluded. Do what you want at home.)

There's a lot that can be said about the value of convenience...
