Question About Decorative Trim - Four Winds

I have a 2019 Thor Four Winds Class C. We are traveling and the decorative trim on the right side that wraps from the top down around and beside the front door has come off. It fits in a groove and covers the joint between the front and side of the body. It looks to be a plastic strip about 1" wide and several feet long. I was told by an RV repair person that this is "decorative" only and does not provide a seal from rain / moisture. I'm not convinced that it is just a trim piece to cover the joint between the top and side. See pictures below. Can anyone tell me for sure?

Well, it's a little more than "decorative" but still not anything major. I had the same thing happen twice on my previous class C while tooling down I-95 at 70 mph. We were about an hour from home, so I secured it with duct tape. Once home, I cleaned it, then ran a bead of Gorilla Glue adhesive in the channel and popped the vinyl strip back in place. It never came loose again.

If the vinyl is damaged or torn, you can buy rolls of it and completely replace it. Google "rv trim insert".

ADDED: You may find a small hole in the trim where it makes the curve from vertical to horizontal. That's intentional; it lets any moisture that builds inside the channel to drain out.

My biggest concern is getting in a major downpour before we get home and getting water in the coach. It looks like it was never totally sealed and was left loose to allow water to drain, so I believe it should be ok till I can get it replaced.

Dan, it's not meant to keep water out of the interior; it's primarily just to cover all those screws and keep them from getting soaked. Which reminds me; you may want to check those screws. I found several were loose, and one was snapped off just below the surface.

You can pop the trim back in place if it's still flexible. Just squeeze it a little. If it's very loose, you can put a little tape on it at a few spots until you make permanent repairs.
