Hi everyone. We are new to the forum but not to RVing.

We have a new 2020 Thor Gemini Sprinter with 7K miles, Since new I have had problem of the engine Alternator not charging house batteries. It has been back to the dealer for Two months and still no charge from the engine. I am concerned that now we have milled the house batteries. HELP

Welcome.

If you have a multi-meter, see if your getting 14v (or close) to the battery when the motor is running. If so, the alternator is just fine.

I believe the Use/Store switch has to be engaged (Use) for that happen. If I'm wrong, someone else will chime in to correct it but it's not going to hurt anything to try it for a little while. If you're not throwing 14v into the batteries, try flipping the switch to Use and see if that works. If not, you may have an alternator problem. I believe there's a fuse in the back of them that can and does blow sometimes. It's going to be tight to get to.

I wouldn't invest in new batteries until you know what the root of the problem is. Assuming they were lead acid, if you killed them beyond 50% too many times, they're likely toast and may not take a charge anymore. If you throw new batteries in their, they'll cover any other problem for a short time. Then your back to square one.

Are you on the move or parked? If parked, you should still be able to run the motor but with less output than if you were traveling so it'll take longer (if it works).

Let us know how you make out.

Thanks so much Breeze for the response. The alternator is doing a fine job of keeping the engine battery charged but no voltage to the house batts. House batts will charge when on shore power.

In previous iterations, Daimler AG did not allow automatic interconnections of the chassis and house batteries. The charger will charge the house batteries (shore power or generator) and the chassis battery is charged by the engines alternator. Several people installed a battery tender on the chassis battery to keep everything charged when in storage. The above is my remembrances only and are not to be construed as fact on your coach.

There should also be a seloid or a one way check wire it is used to make sure power only goes one way to the house battery's maybe that is out also do you have a trailer hitch and plud in check and see if you have power to the brake plug
