Never put regular antifreeze down the sewer. You should never have an "emergency" because you can buy propylene glycol (pink) at any Walmart. Next time you're there pick up a few gallons. Secondly, the amount of mis-information on this threadis astounding. Ethylene glycol is poisonous. Propylene is NOT poisonous.

Was anyone saying antifreeze wasn't poisonous?
That is why the bittering agent is adding as we all know
Without it it is sweet and that was a huge problem
The fact it is poisonous requires the handling such as not storing in open containers and so on
What several are saying as am I is that as a chemical it's fairly innocuous

The chemical ingredients may be innocuous, taken indivudually. However, as a chemical compound it is poisonous and does not need to be poured down the drain.

RV Antifreeze (Propylene Glycol) is nontoxic as certified by the FDA. Yes automotive antifreeze is toxic, that's why I said RV Antifreeze.

Just don't use "Antifreeze-Light" : it's only good down to about 35 degrees...

Then why did you say above "It takes two teaspoons of propylene glycol to kill a dog. They are both poisonous." ?? It's either toxic or it's not. Pick one.

Pour a couple of gallons of vinegar, cheep at big box stores, in the black and gray water tanks. It really lowers the freeze temps and is not hazardous. It will slush up though. As stated before, as long as your tanks are not full or nearly full, you do not have a problem. There is plenty of room for expansion. If your valve seals leak, get them fixed or replaced. Cheep booze will work, but vinegar is cheaper.

I need a link from the poster to the freezing temp of household vinegar. Pure acetic does some weird thing I barely remember, I think it freezes at 65°f.
I'm pretty sure household vinegar freezes at 28°
Being 95% water kinda negates things.
If the tank was entirely vinegar, you have 4 degrees less for a freeze.
I'm fairly certain urine freezes at a lower temperature than vinegar, dependant on Salinity and uric acid content.
Prove me wrong.
It's hard for me to dredge this stuff up from memory and I might be wrong because I'm using head math and solution solutions no one in their right mind remembers or should have bothered with in the first place. I'm doing some hip shots....
But
I'm not the one who made the vinegar suggestion.
Post a link.

Duksface that is nice to know. I should have looked it up. That being said, I don't care what the freezing temp of urine! Too much info. Just dump the tanks and make sure that the valves do not leak with the cap on.

You can get environmentally safe RV antifreeze at every Walmart, farm supply store or any auto parts store. How can you get in a pinch?
No matter what some here believe, most automotive antifreezes are poisonous and need to be disposed off in an environmentally responsible manner.

So I see some of you think storing, hauling antifreeze used per this thread, then incinerated combined with the transportation and incineration which puts several times the carbon contained in the antifreeze into the air, than the microbes breaking it down as a food source would in sewage
It does create jobs, I will give you that
Very similar to the $250,000 trash trucks that come through our neighborhood picking up a few ponds of cardboard to be recycled
Sometimes things aren't what they appear on the first glance

Hip shots
Let me see if I have this right. I say whatever comes to mind and if you disagree I want a link that proves me wrong.
Let start with these, the earth is flat, the US economy is in recession and the Astros did not cheat their way to a 2017 World Series win.

..."I do remember, before they put the bittterent in it back in the 70's, antifreeze tasted like pineapple soda. It was really really tasty. I don't suggest it. I can also tell you wd40 does not taste as good as it smells. And the smell of starting ether makes me instantly very very hungry."...
I knew something was wrong with you...it was just a matter of time before it surfaced!!

You underestimate the circumstance.
The antifreeze wasn't a cause, it was a cure.
Drinking the antifreeze was the only thing all the voices in my head
ever agreed on.

Take it easy Duck, my reference to “off the rails”regards how we got from an original question of adding regular antifreeze in an emergency, to drinking the stuff in the black tank, to drinking pineapple flavored antifreeze! You gotta admit that is slightly off the rails, just saying
