Replace Axxera video cable or replace entire system

Mice chewed through the cable that connects from my Axxera head unit to the camera mounted at the back of my 2017 Thor Chateau 29G. I resoldered the five tiny wires, but it's still not working. I get a message saying no video signal.

My guess is that I need to replace the entire video cable, as it seems to be a shielded cable. This doesn't seem easy at either end, as it would require accessing the rear of the head unit and also fish the cable from underneath up through the rear wall to where the camera is located. Replacing the cable would likely be the cheapest option, but I'm not confident in my ability to do the work.

I've never been thrilled with the Axxera system for either music or the camera, and it lacks Android Auto and Apple Carplay capabilities. Replacing the entire system is a possibility I would consider. Should I inquire with automobile sound system stores? They are familiar with installing head units and running wires. Or do I need to go with an RV repair shop, who are all extremely busy and expensive? I'd appreciate all advice and input.

Depends on your budget and skill. I believe the video cable is just an ordinary shielded cable with RCA ends. I don't have any special soldering skills, and I have strung cable from the rear of a trailer to the dash of the tow vehicle with excellent results.

Shielding joints can be done with aluminum foil. Do continuity tests as you go. Use shrink tubing over joints... waterproof if outside. I ALWAYS solder and avoid crimp connectors for video

If soldering isn't your thing, go to a qualified audio shop.

Just a thought: Would a wireless system work for this application? I have considered adding a small monitor on the dash connected to either the existing camera or a second one. Looking down to the Axxera means my eyes aren't on the road. Several threads here where others have done this.

On a previous trailer I tried a wireless camera. The problem is there are so many small wireless devices out there causing interference... this was in 2017, and reception in traffic was horrible - where I needed it most. Some have had success, but that was not my experience.

On our current MH, I installed a fairly cheap monitor on the (useless) rear view mirror... which is the natural place to look for a rear view... duh! Simple install - just plugged in to the RCA video port on the back of the in-dash Axxera. Then pulled power from a 12 volt wire under the dash. No taking eyes off the road, easy install... and crystal clear video.

My coach doesn't have a rear view mirror, so that's not an option for us. Wonder if the technology on those wireless cameras has improved?
I want to replace the Axxera unit anyway, so I am considering the optimal monitor size. Then a radio unit without the video capability.

Back to the OP, you might call Crutchfield for ideas. They have helped me in the past.
