Replacement Dash Knobs

2015 Thor Axis 24.1. Has anyone found a place to order replacement knobs for the ones on the dash that control fan speed and temp. I found one online source who wanted 12.50 for one knob and 23.95 for shipping. A bit much for a fifty cent knob.

Ordering knobs from the Internet is like a box of chocolates: you'll never know for sure what you will get or if it will fit. When I had my fan control knob break earlier this year I ended up finding a similar knob I could 3D print and "merge" with the broken knob for a invisible repair.

I am not familiar with your coach specifics, but you could try and see if these folks can help you out if you have the Evans Tempcon control knobs. It's a start at least......they might be in the same price range you mentioned though.

Hope it gets you back in business.

You can also find knobs at:

McMaster.com
DigiKey.com
Mouser.com

You will need to know the dimensions of the shaft, with a "D" or smooth, and diameter of the outer knob.

What about the auto wreckers? It is just a Ford unit, screwed and glued in the dash. Should be able to pick something up there....

Unfortunately they are the ones that wanted 50 bucks for one knob

I have found it is not a Ford part. Ford only supplies compressor and drier. The rest is aftermarket. In our case Evans Tempcon

You gotta know more than that.

On mine the shaft was a standard "D" shaft but the part of the knob that fit around the shaft also fits inside a cutout hole on the dash panel. So maybe a 1/4" "D" shaft, surrounded by a 1/2" round part of the knob attached to the 1" diameter knob. That's what makes it a crap shoot because none of the online knob descriptions talk about the center part - even on the Evan's website which lists multiple knobs.

Only Ford class Cs have Ford A/C systems. Ford stripped chassis have Evans Tempcon systems bought by Thor plants and installed by those plants. Whether or not Ford trucks use the Evans Tempcon system is not known to me.

You could also try contacting Badger Truck Refrigeration in Wisconsin. I have purchased (retail) original dash vent louvres from them for my ACE, made by Coyote International (wholesale only) and Badger was excellent to deal with a few years back. Attaching a link to some dash knobs made by Coyote, but I don’t know if they are a match for yours or not. They include some spec drawings that you can check out though. Best part is they are half the price of the posted Tempcon source.... (shipping might be the same cost to you though); but no bargain if they don’t fit correctly. Good luck.

Were you able to find a place that sells the replacement?

My 2016 had a broken knob on delivery. My dealer probably replaced six knobs and ultimately I designed and printed replacements. They're not very attractive since I'm not great with 3d CAD, but I'll print and send a set for a very reasonable price if you still need them.

I'd love a copy of your STL file to see how it compares to my Frankenstein repair. It's got to be better.

Thanks!

Here you go, both the STL and Fusion file. Like I said it's literally as simple as it can be and still function...

Try Johneys Radiator Shop. They carry a wide selection of repair parts for Evans / evans-tempcon parts for RV dash ACs

I found part# RV219512 to be a direct replacement on my 2016 AXIS. I purchased them here: http://www.johnnysradiatorshop.com/ but if you google the part number, a few suppliers come up.

HTH!!

STL File might be a good starting point

A year ago, or more I searched for replacement knobs for my 2016 ACE 29.2

That part number I found here today (RV219512) is the closest I've come but, oh boy is it expensive.

I have a 3d printer, so I found an STL file (3d model) for one that wasn't a perfect match. I modified it, printed it and it fits but the "pointer" on the knob is in the wrong spot. I am still monkeying around trying to figure out how to fix that but, thought I would post the STL file (in a zip). If someone would like to try to modify it, here it is...

I have two of these printed and in use in my coach. They work fine, just that the pointers are in the wrong place.

My son got me a Bambu Labs 3D printer for Christmas. In three months I've got pretty proficient with FreeCad. Been making all sorts of gadgets for the motorhome I didn't even know I needed! Next project is a custom cover plate for a replacement USB charge port... the Thor one is useless! Being retired with a graphics background has its benefits!

Smile Welcome to 3D printing!

I'm retired also. I was an IT Geek for over 40 years, worked for a college district as a Database Administrator for many years (hence the DB in my username "dbtwiddler").

I'm not an expert but, I have been using 3D printers for several years. My old printer (Monoprice Maker Architect) died last month so, I bought a Creality K1 Max and I love it!

Once I get the knob corrected, I'll re-post it here for others to use.
