Rock chips in windshield, Thor Hurricane

I just picked up my MH from the glass shop this morning. 3 rock chips,
the first one less than 50 miles from the dealer when I first purchased
the MH. That turned into a 14" crack up the center of the windshield.

I asked about applying a plastic sheet coating to the lower portion of
the windshield to protect from rock chips like I have on the front
sheet metal of both my cars. Glass shop said no the plastic will not
stop the rock chips.

Anybody else found a solution for this???

New windshield runs about $4500 (insurance) and I have a deductible.

Check out Crystal Fusion Windshield Protection.

Crystal Fusion | Windshield Treatments and Vehicle Visibility

Not sure how it works with chips but it does make a difference in the rain. I had it applied to the new Lincoln. I do like the total replacement warranty for any chip.

Now to see if it can be applied to the motorhome. Their website does show and RV so it may be possible depending on cost.

It is to late for you now but there are glass repair techniques where they fix small chips before they become major cracks. I've had it done on my F-150. After the glass is pitted or chipped, vibration or moisture can get into the crack and freeze, both can cause the crack to spread.

The crack can also enlarge if you run the windshield wipers too. This windshield
is about 8 ft. wide and almost 5 ft. tall.

Yes...I agree. We've had 3 chips "repaired" on our Ford Flex. There is a fellow here in town called the Chip Doctor and he does them for $25.

It is so easy to get rock chips here in AZ. If the chip is small, the repair almost makes it invisible. We have 2 of those. Our latest was a pretty sizable chip, but we went for the repair for now. It is noticeable, but at least it will stop cracking.

We think if we get one more, or if any of the fixes fail, we'll have to get a new windshield. With summer coming, and hot weather, we're not sure how the fixes will hold.

I got a small chip in the Challenger's windshield on the way back from our second trip. I had Safelite Auto Glass come to house and repair the chip. We made two trips since then and so far the repair has held up.
