Battery Drain when on 50?

We have 50 amp service connected to our rig here at home. However my house batteries are not maintaining full status. Can anybody chime in if I should expect batteries to remain fully charged when docked and plugged in?

Absolutely they should be maintained on shore power.

First, are you sure your Use / Store switch is in the "Use" position? If it is not, then the batteries will not charge because you have disconnected the batteries from the 12V circuit.

If the switch is in the "Use" position, you need to check to make sure the breaker for the Converter (responsible for charging the house batteries) is not tripped.

There is also a small 50 amp circuit breaker in the house battery compartment that protects the #6 cable from the batteries to the converter. Mine is very back of the compartment, labeled 50 amps and does not have a test button; but does have a yellow flag that appears when it is tripped.

All good suggestions to check above. But if the converter works at rv parks but doesn't work at home, check out your shore power supply. Maybe only one leg was wired so you are not getting power to the converter. Check with a voltmeter to find out.

It would be helpful if you told us what kind of coach this is on. Some will charge the battery when plugged into shore power and others will not. Anything on a Mercedes chassis may not because Mercedes does not allow some connections.

Until such time as the rig is specified all you are getting is a guess or opinion as to what is happening.

You can either help us help you or you can fly by the seat of the pants with WAGs only.

Was not in the USE position as you suggested. Batteries now fully charged. Onward and upward. Thanks to all of you for your quick guidance.

The OP was clearly concerned about house batteries, not chassis battery.

As a final note that breaker (15amp) was indeed tripped. This also had the refrigerator running on LP even though I was set to auto. So in summary I need to be on USE status when plugged in and keep an eye on that breaker for the converter.
