RV Washing

Curious to know what others are doing. When we had our big TT we would take it through a truck wash once in a while on the way home. Then the kids and I would wash it in the subdivision a few times a year. That always got remarks from the neighbors, though.

Where we store our new rig they have a complimentary wash bay. I spent a couple hours washing it a couple weeks ago. We take it on short trips every 2-3 weeks and have a couple long trips planned as well.

We keep it stored indoors, but I was wondering what is the general consensus on how often you wash yours. Not really interested in products for cleaning. Just curious about frequency. With this wash bay available I can see washing our's about every month while the weather is nice.

If I had a good spot that allowed me to wash I'd do it more than a couple times a year, not sure I'd do it once a month, but it won't hurt it either.

We bought an extended wand, for giving the rig a bath: it's still a major pain in the butt!

Every time before it leaves the driveway and at least monthly. Roof about every three months. Pollen is a factor. When the roof is dirty, the black streaks accumulate.

Man that roof gets dirty FAST. Have a telescopic flow through brush to help and a ladder on the rear. Hate those black streaks. Maybe I'm in overkill mode but HATE thos black streaks.

it totally depends....
how long does it take to get dirty?

I store mine outside in a grass and gravel field so it pretty much stays dirty unfortunately.... As it is, I'd like to wash it maybe 4-5 times per year but can't find the time often...so in reality I hit the roof roughly 1-2x a year, and do a wash of some level maybe 3x. I'd want to do more if we used it more often....

The other variable is if a lot of bugs are splatted form the trip.

keeping it indoors, & if I had nothing but lots of time available, and assuming I used it a lot...I'd think I'd do a cursory wash after any trip with lots of bugs or otherwise got filthy...say from driving in rain
and I'd do a more thorough wash maybe 2x per year... cleaning the roof and doing a bit of detailing and waxing...

Yeah: When its dirty.

In general I'll wash (and wax/Rejex it) in the spring and then after longer trips where it gets dirty/bug splattered. (only wax/Rejex in the spring)

Then again once in the fall before its put away for the winter.

Total 3 maybe 4 times a summer.

I usually have it waxed and detailed once a year, and get it washed as needed during the year. Its stored inside, so really only gets dirty when we are out in it.

I store mine outside and only cover it during the winter for about three months.

When its beyond dirty i usually wash it with Meguiar's wash and wax.
https://www.google.com/search?ei=vsI....0.ryn2SkRJpz8

i wax it twice a year once during the summer two week vacation trip and again during my christmas/new years vacation trip with Meguiers carnauba wax
https://www.google.com/search?ei=rMM....0.HbvbOOHux4s

This year i also washed the roof and put 303 on it.

Its alot of work but it still looks like new.

Not meaning to hijack this thread, but how does one clean that big ass windshield on a class a? I bought a squeegee thing but the windshields so curved that I can only do a few inches per swipe leaving streaks.

Bob, I carry a ladder and wash it by hand, I put a coat of Rejex on it so it doesn't get too bad. If I am traveling and at a gas station I use the squeegee.

Rejex or RainX on the windshield with a ladder. I have the long poled squeegee and use that at gas stations if the window is too buggy.

I clean the bugs off of the front and windshield after every trip and do a full wash every 2 to 3 months.

Ours is stored in our drive way and the neighbors could care less if I wash it there. So, when mine has bugs all over it I get the hose, soup bucket, long handled brush and get after it. Waxing is a three day job for me so thats once a year.

When I had the 5th wheel and stored away from home I would take it to a casino camp ground and wash it there. On slow times during the week they usually don't mind.

I use a car wash brush and soapy water on windshield. Spray off with water. Let it sit a few minutes to air dry, then rinse and shake out the brush. Then I take a microfiber shammy and drape it on the brush and wipe up and down the window to get of the water spots. You have to adjust the rag a few times to keep using a dry spot.

I use Washwaxall. Have their extension pole also. I wash the mh using their pole but i put on a brush on the end made for autos. Use the pole with a towel on it to dry also. This takes about 30-45 minutes Then i use the washwaxall to wax. This takes another hour. Try to do this 3 or 4 times a year

We use RainX washer fluid in the windshield washer reservoir. The bugs don't stick.

Mine stays outside and is used year round.

I wash/inspect roof quarterly. I use a beach towel to kneel on. Surprisingly all the mildew/pollen comes off with good brand car wash soap.

The rest of unit maybe 3 or 4 times a year.

For windshield, I use a scotch Brite and good stepladder. After I get love bugs and other guts off, I use Rain X. Even with bug wash in reservoir they still stick.

Last trip South I think the love bugs had a reunion on 29. My windshield was so bad I was afraid to use wipers and make it worse.
