Oil Changes

I know ... it's a no-brainer.

We've had our A.C.E. since late last March, and have put about 3,000 miles on it. Total mileage is just about 6,000. The dealer changed the oil prior to us taking delivery, so there's truly about 3,000 mi. on this oil.

When should we change it?

I am in the same situation. Ford states oil and filter should be changed every 6 months or 7500 miles. If ever there is an engine related warranty claim the claim could be questioned if oil was not changed at the specified intervals. Also there is a certain amount of water vapor and other contaminants in the oil which is flushed during a change.

How BMW, Honda, even Ford and other manufacturers get away with computer driven service intervals (some up to 12K miles) I'll never know...

If you want to stay within the Ford designated times, then do it as the book says. But, as long as you have the work order that the dealer did it, that will work too. It's your call.

They put an oil sensor in the engine that measures the oils 'age' and determines when it needs changing. (At least Ford's oil life monitor works that way.)

Jedsmom: We change the oil before putting it away for the winter in both the engine and the genny. That way its sitting over winter with fresh oil, and there is less to do to get it ready for camping in the spring.

Granted in warmer climes, like Southern California, there is no need to put it away for the winter. Not sure how I'd handle it in that case...

Bet if you read just a bit farther in your owners manual you will find oil change spec's for towing. Most of us tow so the interval is 5,000 miles.

What are the thoughts on Full Synthetic oil for the V-10 and also the generator. I'm not referring to Synthetic BLENDs because there are no specs in the US for this product so you never know how much synthetic is in any given blend. I'm saying Full Synthetic Oil use in the V-10 and generator. THOUGHTS???

Just sent off an email to ford with an inquiry about full synthetic oil for the V10.

I use royal purple full synthetic, will change at 6,000 miles + depending upon how it looks and where I've been. Maybe that's why on our 3800 mile trip I averted 8.5 mpg.

You can use any oil which meets or exceeds their specs and royal purple certainly does that.
