Service Fee

In RI there is only one RV dealer and service center. Nearest dealer out of state is 30 miles away,so I brought my Vegas to the local service center. The cost of my particular job was $427. I expected the cost to be high, but only because I expected a part to be replaced. No part was needed, just some time consuming adjustment, but the hourly rate was about $150/hour. Is this the going rate, or am I seeing a rate that high because there is little competition in RI?

That hourly rate for RV service work here in NW Indiana and the south Chicago suburbs is about the norm. At least that has been my experience.
That's one of the reasons if it isn't on warranty I try to make my own repairs when feasible. Physical limitations are starting to become a problem as I age but that's what grandsons are for!

The hourly rate at my local dealer is 135.00. They also have a fixed rate of 85.00 for troubleshooting warranty faults that cannot be verified or duplicated. That charge does not apply to warranty items that are verified as faults or issues that can be replicated/duplicated during troubleshooting.

At least the 30 mile trip no longer seems unreasonable...
(My Dealer is 123 miles from me...)

GeneralRV is charging $150 an hour for their labor service out here is western Chicago suburbs. So what you’re seeing seems to be in-line with going rates. That’s not to say whether or not the going rate is in line with the professionalism executed by the shop in doing those repairs...

135-160 per hour green horn ot tech

A few young smart fellows should get in the game

No flat rate so you pay for the OJT

Given the current volume there is some money changing hands

Best to get a written quote
