Question Shoreline, Auxiliary Battery, HELP ME -IDK WHAT IM DOING

hi 🙋*♀️ I bought a 1996 Thor Residency, BUT, I know nothing.

For example, where is the socket for the shoreline plug?

How many auxiliary batteries do I need? I know I need 12V DC, but 🤷*♀️🤷*♀️ How many?

Are there any other hidden batteries?

Where is the Battery Shut Off Switch

Does anyone have the manual?

Seriously this is like my 5th forum. I’ll be an empty nester full time RV-er and have no clue how to get this thing to turn on??

I put in a new battery in the front and gas in the tank! Now what?

First: Welcome aboard!

Now take a deep breath... and let's get started with the easy stuff first.
Finding a set of manuals for your rig is a monstrous task... try using YouTube and Google.
Shorepower socket? Are there any sockets on the LH side of your rig? How about under a small cap, or in a storage compartment?
Batteries? 12 volts is right; but where are they hidden? Try under the entry steps first, and then start digging in the outside compartments first... followed by the inside closets, and under the bed.
One step, and one deep breath at a time: you'll get it!

Welcome to the forum!

RV manufacturers typically provide only a basic generic manual with their coaches, so don't waste much time searching for a comprehensive manual (like every new auto purchase includes). Instead, get the model number of the components, fridge, furnace, AC, water heater, etc and get their manuals online. Get a chassis manual, too. You probably have a Ford F53.

Forum hero Ed Felker collected an excellent crowd-sourced manual for Vegas/Axis a few years ago, and you will find some useful info there that will apply to your rig. Find it on the forum in a sticky under Motorhome Tech Topics. The checklists will be especially helpful.

Your new friends on the forum here will be a great resource for your inevitable questions.

OMG Ya'll Replied

Hi again!!!! Thanks for replying. Like whoaaaaa that made my day.

OK.. Here's what I found out

I do have the F53 Manual. I have a 95 Chassis with a 96 Thor Residency Body. Apparently if they made the one I have after September the Body is of the 96 but the used the 95 Chassis

Auxiliary Battery - Buy 2 6V or 1 12V. Now my question is if I buy 2 - 12V and Parallel them isn't that better than 2-6? And will my RV be able to sustain that much AHs (look ya'll I learned some new words in my research last night) - So what do I get?

Battery Shut Off Switch - I found out that there is a shut off on the Battery Cord that was installed, but since it's rusted, I'll replace it and roll with that.

Shoreline - There is a plug on right side of the camper but it looks like a normal Electric Outlet. We cannot find any sockets on driver side of the. We have searched every compartment unless it's like majorly hidden. Now I called the guy I got it from. He said they used the electric outlet on the passenger side to get power. Now that don't sound right to me.

Again thanks for replying. I've been on Google and researching but this shoreline got me stumped.

Oh lastly, I'll print that checklist, because I KNOW IT WILL COME IN HANDY!!!

Hi Antoinettetbell

I just saw a video on a 1998 Thor Residency Motor home and it showed the shoreline electrical power cable comes out of the driver side rear compartment. It showed the cable coiled up inside that compartment. It should be a 50 amp cable line.

Paul

Good Video

I saw the video and I am sure the cord for mine is missing. But I can't find the socket.. I keep watching videos and everywhere we check we don't see the socket. Could it have not come with one

Just drive it to a local dealer and ask the service writers if someone can answer a couple quick questions for you. They would probably be glad to take a quick look for you. Most all campers and motorhomes are built quite similar. The power supply will be somewhere real close to the main distribution area.
