Slide motor stops working

I have a 2018 thor hurricane 34j and the slide would not retract. The rear motor seems to be running fine. The front motor which is motor 2 will lock up after about 1 second. Then you can extend it and does the same thing. The controller gives an error code of 8 red lights on motor 2 which is a short between controller and motor. Checked harnesses and wire and it all seems to look good. Switched the harnesses at the controller and it gave the error code on motor 1 which makes sense because I switched them. Removed motor 2 from slide and without removing motor 1 from slide, I just unplugged the harness and plugged it into motor 1 harness. Did the same thing. Motor locks up after 1 second. At this point, I feel like it is a bad motor. I have ordered a new motor. I did a manual override on the controller and both motors worked like they should. When you take it back out of manual mode, then it quits working. I have looked over the motor and everything looks ok. No wires pulled out or cracked. Any thoughts??

Rather than have us guess, why not call LCI's Schwintec department and describe what has happened. (574) 537-8900.

Anyway here is the trouble shooting guide for the in-wall slide system <https://www.granddesignrv.com/sites/default/files/>

The first thing I did was call Lippert. This isn't the first time my Thor RV has let me down. I have already done everything they told me to try with no success. I was just checking to see if anyone else had a similar experience with their slide out motors.

It should be flashing a code...
What is going on at the controller?

The error code tells me that there is a short between the controller and motor 2. I said that in my original post. It is a pretty vague diagnosis. Just checking to see if anyone has had success fixing that code before.

Have you tried swapping the controller with the one for the overhead bunk to verify the controller is good?

Based on that information: your wiring harness got pinched, and is shorting out.
I had the same problem with my Outlaw, and the harness had to be replaced.
You might be able to trace the wiring and find the bare spot in the wires.
Good luck!

I took the motor giving me issues which is motor 2 located at front of coach, unplugged it from the harness. Went to back of coach and unplugged the motor back there which is motor 1. I plugged motor 2 into the motor 1 harness and tried to move slide. The motor did the same thing. That tells me the harness is ok because the motor doesn't work in either harness I plug it into.

My bedroom slide developed a code 9 after three years of use. It still worked in emergency override. After putting up with that for several months, I dissembled the slide surround. Many screws and pin nails later, I exposed the back wall wiring chase. The problem was immediately evident. The cover of the wiring harness had worn through. There was short coil of wire between the harness clamp and the wall chase which had moved and was rubbing on the bottom slide track. I stripped the cover off the harness for about 6 inches to expose the wires. Four of the nine strands were worn away. I soldered in a jumper and covered it with heat shrink tubing. I used self-vulcanizing tape to cover the wires and used an Adel clamp to hold the repair away from the track. I reinstall the bed surround using hot glue and the screws. Now the DW is able to move the slide by herself, again.

You've solved your own problem: the motor is bad!

I ordered mine from amazon as well. Not cheap. $225ish. Lowest price I could find. Lippert said they would have covered it if it is within one year of purchasing the rv but I was not.
