At least you're down to a relatively simple process at this time...
Telephone issues always make me think of this song:

I know that it doesn't help with this situation: but it seemed like a nice one for the moment...

And it DOES involve a telephone...

We have a 2016 ACE 29.3. In August of this year, we had one of two motors on our whole wall slide fail. It cost us about $250 to have a mobile repair guy come out, diagnose the problem, get the slide back in so we could drive, and show us how to get it in and out till we could get a replacement motor. We picked up a motor from General RV in Virginia on the way past that day - $350 (it would have been $244 on Amazon but we couldn't wait). At the end of the day, we paid another mobile repair guy to come to the campground and install it for $200. So, yeah, can't see how they got to that price for yours.

We are living in a hotel waiting to see if extended warranty will cover the cost to fix our slide on thor freedom elite 30fe. If they dont which in my opinion is total bs it has been quoted as 3500 plus parts cost of 800. Turns out the slide failed because thor neglected to put the roller needed on one side. Very discouraged at this point in time. Will be spending Thanksgiving in a hotel eating Dennys turkey. ....😔

Sorry to hear that this happened to you...
But on the bright side: there's no black tank to dump at the Motel, and you don't have to cook your own meals.
How long have you been stuck there?

Since last Friday..... heard back and going to be here until at least Monday. Could be longer....ugh. We were do on South Padre Island yesterday. So on top of hotel and meal costs we are paying for a site we can't get to because we don't want to lose it. It's a nightmare. I'll take cooking etc any day....

I just want to add here.
We have a 2012 ACE 29.2, we had the entire slide rebuilt.
Both motors, upper and lower gears plus all rollers.
Camping world perform a complete rebuild including seals.
Total cost 3600.00 +/- a few dollars.
So I would say they are flat out over charging you.
This was a all day job I know I was their the whole day.

Good luck

Thumbs up Got my RV back

Update:
Picked up the RV yesterday. Everything is fixed and working properly. After a set down talk with the Tech we learned a few personal things about the Tech and his Co. that changed my feelings towards the project, The extended Warranty folks (RV Care) gave us great service and covered what they felt it should have cost which was about 75%. The new owner (His son which took over the business) knocked off several hundred and we agreed on the paying the remaining balance. It was his first time working with an extended warranty Co so since my wife works with them in another type of business she helped him with the paperwork, and some other issues as well. He is running the business, paperwork, accounting, everything. He's a good kid and seems very knowledgeable on RV's and my wife is going to help him out in the future on how to file and tract warranty payments, etc. He is looking to hire help but good employees are hard to find out here in the country.

He went ahead and replaced both motors, shaft, gear heads, two track bars. I know there's a mark up on parts and then the labor costs. One motor was fairly simple and the other was very difficult. Just glad I wasn't on the road when it happened.

The only things to my knowledge that he didn't replace was the rollers and two track bars. He showed me the parts and some pics. CW was 4 weeks out and they wanted me to drop it off and they would work it in.

I'm glad it all worked out.
I'm also glad you found a shop you like and go back to and they now have an intimate knowledge of how extended warranty works.

Our rig is at a CW. We are traveling and have been to a couple to get it diagnosed, parts ordered etc. Been quite the nightmare and been going on over a month. BUT as I said we are blessed. My hubby and I, our children and grandchildren are all healthy. Doesn't get much better that that!
