Slide topper

Hello Guys,
Does anyone know what this if for?

My passenger slide topper have this on both ends an pointing up like in the picture and it caused holes in my cover.
I just noticed in my driver side slide, it has only one and is pointing down when closed, therefore no holes in the cover on that side....

Is there a way to adjust it w/o disassembling the topper so it points down when closed?

Thank you,
R

That is the "gust lock" / "anti-billow lock" plunger on a Carefree of Colorado slide topper / "slideout cover". It keep the topper from unraveling when traveling. You probably need to replace the "plunger kit".

Why do I need to replace the plunger kit?

Because it has failed. The plunger must push against the striker plate to lock the roller in place for the anti-billowing feature to work. You can read the slide-out cover mounting instructions for info on how the system works and how to adjust the plunger.

I had the unfortunate opportunity to replace both of my main slideout's arms when the slide-out cover deployed in a wind gust at while I was driving. The whole assemblies are available on Amazon.

i have those, and i just put a tennis ball over it to prevent a hole in my cover.

I don't know why they have to be replaced???

Mine is an LCI instead of Colorado but looks similar. It works without a plunger, the post rotates with the tube and if the slide isn't extending it hits the plate attached to the wall. I'm assuming the position of the post is to allow for the least amount of billowing while still clearing the plate as the slide extends. From your photo I can't tell which brand you have.
