Unhappy Slide won't stay retracted

Our hydraulic dinette slide retracts without any issues, but within a few minutes it slides out an inch or two at the bottom.

Any idea what the problem might be?

Do you have any slide-stops: that you can set in place?

Sounds like leaking hydraulic cylinders to me.

We just got the motorhome a couple of weeks ago so we're still figuring things out. Fortunately we're not traveling yet. I'll have to look into slide stops, although I'm hesitant about putting slide stops at the bottom. Wouldn't that put a lot of force on just a couple of points?

By the way, I just extended the slide all the way and retracted it again. So far it's stayed put for half an hour. Before that it was consistently far less than a minute. At that point I would retract it so it would be flush again, only to have it slide out again in 30 seconds or so.

The previous owner didn't extend this slide for probably a year or more because of problems with the attachment of the ram to the bottom of the slide. I resolved those problems today and started extending and retracting the slide. Could it be that not using this slide for so long caused the ram to not hold in the slide?

As in a leaking seal?

Could be air in the system. If you have a manual see if there is a bleeding procedure

Thanks - I'll check into that. I do have all the manuals.

By the way, it hasn't slipped out again yet. Strange...

When you change the fluid in a hydraulic leveling system the procedure is to cycle the jacks several times to purge the air from the lines and jacks. As previously mentioned, there may have been air in the lines and extending and retracting the slide a few times may have purged any air from the system.

If you have an HWH hydraulic slide system, that's a characteristic of a leaking control valve. Leaking internal leak, not external. There are remedies to try before replacing a valve so research here and on IRV2 with questions first.

Thanks for all the feedback!

So far it's stayed put for a day and a half. I'm hoping it was a one-time deal.

If not I'll pursue the tips in this thread.

You may want to research possible remedies to be on top of things if it rears its head again in the future.

Me: I created a notebook for RV things like instructions, remedies, fixes, etc.
It's an expandable notebook and I copy and paste threads, then print, like on Thor Forums for future reference.
Things like: how to run hydraulic jack manually, or troubleshooting tips on Axerra radio, how to get refrigerator working again on propane.
Owners manual and guide to added things like the Garmin GPS, etc.
I try to be proactive on the gathering of info (read: pre-problem, in case of).
Just an idea, it has helped me out on occasion.

I second that though use a laptop. You may find yourself without an internet connection, depending on how you camp. When I go off grid - I'm 'off' grid. If I have a problem, I fire up the laptop and go to my tips and tricks section. It's come in handy a few times now. Good luck with the slide.
