We tried with engine, plugged into AC shore power, batteries only. No combination or permutation seemed to work.

Fknapp -- the controller for the bunk is behind a false panel on the top shelf of the kitchen cabinet, left hand interior wall. You should see some screws holding on the false wall. See if the bunk controller is flashing a code.

I tried setting up in a thunderstorm. I had left the engine running. To my shagrin the canopy would not deploy and the slide would not move. Then it hit me -- turn off the engine. I did and the canopy and slide then functioned fine.

fknapp,

We have an early model 2016 Vegas 24.1 on the E350 chassis. When we got ours there was a problem with the ignition switch in that it keep getting "loose" in the steering column and then weird stuff happened. The accessories in the dash would either not engage or would not turn off, the fan for the AC would not turn on and once I got the key out without turning the key all the way to off (in front of the dealership man).
If yours is "loose" it could make the unit think you have the engine has not been shut off and if that is the case you can not open the awning nor roll out the slide if the unit thinks the engine is running.

Ford finally replaced the ignition switch and all has been okay.

Does your awning deploy? That would seem to be a way to test DocMike's suggestion.

Awning deploys. Found the controller for the bed right where it was supposed to be and it was flashing a "motor short" error code. No amount of manual override or reset would budge the bed or slide. Is it safe to assume that the 30 amp fuse in the converter is for BOTH the slide & bed? Harumph.

On the controllers - your should have 12v to the motor connections...
There are two additional tabs - labeled EXT and RET... These get 12v applied when you depress the buttons to EXTend or RETract the slide...

In my case a few months ago - 12v was not going to those pins - was not present at the switch to pass through. I jumped 12v from a nearby light (basement compartment light near controller) to the pins and it worked... (found my EXT and RET pins were backwards - had to power EXT to get it to retract... but it worked...)

Haven't found the cause yet (NO rapid camp on mine either) - but made a more permanent bypass on back of the switch panel... Haven't addressed the overhead bunk yet - but will be doing that today...
Awning worked fine throughout...

Yes - I bypassed any safeties related to engine running, etc... but the slides gotta move... Intend to figure out the real issue and get it back as it should be - but higher priorities right now.
