If the locks are not engaged until the last 1/2 inch of travel there is insufficient force to set the lock against the block. Also if the slide creeps out during travel, it will release the gust locks. I just went through 40 mph gusting to 55 mph head winds, heading south on I-57 driving 60 mph. The gust locks held.
Good information to know. Thanks.

My 29.2 Thor slide awning failed to fully extend and broke one awning bracket and bent the other. Could not find cause of failure, but at $130 per bracket I would appreciate any assistance in preventing a recurrence.

The slide toppers fail to extend then the fabric roll is pressed up against the slide. Most common cause is the slide creeps out about 1/2 inch on rough roads and releases the gust locks. A wind gust pull the roll away from the coach and unfurl the topper completely. When the gust subsides the roll will retract violently, bending the mounting brackets so that the roll is jammed against the slide. Proper spring tension of the topper (10 to 20 turns depending on spring length) and adjustment of the gust locks (four turns when fully closed) will usually prevent the re-occurrence.
