Some AC Outlets Don't Work When On Battery Power

Hi all,
I own a 2019 Thor Challenger 37YT.

The 120 VAC outlets in my lavatory, plus the microwave oven, do not receive power from my inverter when only using battery power. Other AC items like the TVs and refrigerator work fine. I verified by measurement that the GFCI outlet in the lavatory does not have voltage on its "line" side.

However, when I turn the generator on, all AC items work fine. I noticed that the DC voltage jumped up to ~12.6 VDC from ~12.1 VDC.

I can't figure out why this is happening. Any thought would be greatly appreciated!!!

The inverter is not intended to supply power to the entire rig, just some basic things like the fridge, TV, and a few outlets. If it supplied the entire rig, the batteries would quickly drain. Everything should work when you start the generator, because that supplies 120 volts to all the devices and the converter which resumes charging the battery/ies just like when you're plugged in to shore power.

What you describe is how the MH was built and is entirely normal. It has a medium size, probably 1,000 watt inverter, that supplies power to a few outlets- the ones you describe but not the others. If you want all of the outlets powered you need a bigger inverter and probably bigger batteries.

Seems to me that it’s working as designed. Should have been explained on the PDI or at least in your owner’s manual.

Go to the Thor owners resource site and down load the electrical diagrams for your coach. Those diagrams will show you which outlets are connected to the inverter circuit.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the timely responses. I am now convinced that you are correct... that only certain outlets work on the inverter circuit. I appreciate your comments... they have been very helpful!
