Something really weird...

I have a 2018 Vegas 27.7 with less than 600 miles on it. The in-dash radio was working at the time of delivery.

The in-dash radio lost power, and I assumed it had blown a fuse. Looking in the Ford owners manual that came with the vehicle, we determined that the radio fuse is #39 in the under dash Ford chassis fuse box. I talked to Thor Tech Support and confirmed that the radio is fused through this location rather than through the body wiring.

When the fuse was checked, it was not blown and there was power to the fuse. Checking the red power wire that plugs into the back of the in-dash radio, there is no power there. We traced the wiring from the radio back to the fuse box and could not find any loose connections or any other reason why there should be no power at the radio.

To confirm that the problem is in the wiring, we ran a new wire directly from the fuse to the connecter that plugs into the back of the radio.

Now for the really weird part...when we attached the new wire to the red power wire in the radio connector...the refrigerator came on!!

I tried to call Thor Tech Support but the recording says they are now closed. At 2:30 EST on a Friday afternoon? Geez!

Any ideas?

Take it back to the dealer or a Thor service center as soon as possible and have them mitigate this issue. Wiring issues can mature into something bigger so the onus should be put on Thor/service center to fix this and anything else that may come up later that maybe related. I know its an inconvenience but wiring is one of those things you don't want to jury rig.

I'm sure they sent everybody home, if they are getting snow like we are (I've already shoveled 4 times and each time I shoveled 2" and it still hasn't stopped). I have family in Chicago and they're getting it just as bad as we are here in the Detroit area. Considering Thor is pretty much in between Chicago and Detroit (just a little south) they are probably getting it too.

All the schools here are closed, offices are closed.

Its not that they left early on a Friday its that they ran home from snowmageddon.

I agree with letting the dealer handle this one... Your rig should still be under warranty, and you don't want them blaming you for any trouble that they find.
Good luck!

Jamie,
I hope that your weather isn't going to land on us nest: I've got a new Spyder to pick up tomorrow...

The dash radio is wired the the coach, not the Ford chassis. It is wired that way so you can use it as your living room radio without draining the starting battery. Check the fuses in your coach panel.

Watching the Wx channel it looks like there will be more of an ice storm east of us instead of the 8+" of snow we're getting. I guess it would depend on where in NY you are.

The thing is, this snow hasn't been that bad..just a gentle snow all day. No wind, no blizzard. It just hasn't stopped LOL. Started early and hasn't let up.

We're in the Catskills: about 100 miles north of NYC, and the same amount south from Albany...
Look over closer to the Pennsylvania border: our County runs right up to the river... We're in the Northeast quadrant.

In my Axis 24.1 the F35 fuse is hooked up to the coach battery to run the radio and the F39 is hooked to the chassis battery for the radio memory.

Turn your USE/STORE switch to USE. Sounds like it was in store and you weren't plugged in to shore power. When you ran your jumper wire you backfed the entire DC bus through that wire providing control power to the refrigerator.

The memory is hooked to the chassis on mine also. I found the wire to hook my main radio operation to the chassis as well. I didn't like that when I opened the door to get out the radio stayed on. Plus we never really listen to the radio inside.

That sounds like a very reasonable explanation...I will let you know if that resolves the problem. Thanks.

Watched it several times. lol As a PA native who's been in FL for 24 years I haven't seen snow fall for that long. I miss it a little. I wish I could hear the distinct "silence" a bed of fresh snow creates. <3

Having delivered newspapers off a sled back in Indy, I still don't miss it.

When I retire: I'm tying a snow shovel to the grille of the rig...
When someone asks me what the heck it is: THAT's where we'll stay!

Wiring issues can indeed turn into something much bigger. A Fresno RV dealership had a very large fire Wednesday (February 21) night causing millions of dollars of damage. The fire is thought to be started from a faulty refrigerator in a motorhome. If you think there is a wiring issue, don't wait! You certainly don't want a fire.

I wonder how common that is, I've heard of it before. I'm guessing that it's caused by the propane left on. Are there any insurance stats that can be researched?

Leaving the propane on doesn't cause a fire. Having a faulty refrigerator can cause a fire.

Soooo, 2 weeks later, did the OP find his problem?
