Suspension repair parts unknown

Have a 1998 Thor Windsport. Behind the rear wheels there is a bar that goes from side to side and appears to be attached to the leaf spring using some type of a large rubber bushing. With age, the rubber has hardened and on one side it has sheared in half. I cannot find this part in any manuals to find a part name to begin looking for one. Can anyone tell me what this part is and where to find it? I can send you a pic if you email me.
I appreciate your help.
Bill Skaggs

Bill,

Is your Windsport on a Ford Chassis? If it is you should be able to go to Ford Parts and search on either the 1997 or 1999 F53 chassis and find what you are looking for. It sounds like you are looking for the bushings for the rear stabilizer bar.

As a note, I do not believe Ford put out a model year 98 F53 so yours is more than likely a 97 chassis. Also, at Ford Parts you can enter the VIN for the parts search.

Hope this helps.

Did you find a part?

Our rubber piece is sheared in two as well!

Yes I did. They are called shear springs. I ordered them directly from the company which is morryde.com. There is contact information on the website. There is a large single digit number stamped on the side of the shear spring. They will need that to send the correct part. If you click on supension then click on RL suspension system you will see a picture of them.
They cost about $250.00 each. You will need to replace both sides. They are rascals to put on but I did it myself in two days. If you need anything else please feel free to ask.

Replace 2 or 4?

Did you do all four? (Two on each tire)? Or just the two on one tire?

What kind of tools did you need?

My coach only has two. One on each side mounted on the rear of the leaf spring. No special tools . Just sockets, wrenches, ect. I needed a couple of small hydraulic Jacks to help relieve pressure on the springs. I would suggest to always replace components on both sides to keep everything in balance. If your going to go to the trouble to replace these you might as well have all of them new.
