Once the fuel pressure is up the pump won't engage until you crank it.

If I were to trouble shoot it, I would check the fuel rail for pressure and fuel. I would also change the fuel filter

Do you get a check engine light?

Buying a pressure testing tool today to check fuel rail.
Check Engine Light has been cycling on and off for last week

I agree, first step would be to replace the fuel filter.

First things first then. Read the history codes, if you don't have access to a reader places like autozone do it for free. Even though it feels like a fuel problem, might be something like the crank position sensor not sensing the cranking. The codes will point you in the right direction.
