T. Windsport inverter fan running intermittently

Folks,
I’ve tried searching other threads, but had some trouble navigating - anyhoo, we have a ‘17 Windsport, and earlier today we started hearing a fan running. I traced it down to the inverter located in a storage bin below the dinette. The cooling fan intermittently runs for 15-20 minutes and shuts off. We just returned from a short trip and have the rig plugged in to 120v power to keep fridge, lights, & batteries happy while parked in our warehouse. Any advice?

First question:

Is it the Inverter fan or the converter fan?

Both are inverter is located in the storage compartment & the converter is located in a void below the master bed

Mine has a temp sensor mounted in the compartment with the magnum converters and will come on when compartment temp gets to warm.

You can edit your posts within 1 hour of posting for spelling/grammar errors.

The Converter fan normally runs when supplying a DC load larger than a float charge on the batteries, for us that may be as little as the main LED lights being turned on with the bedroom lights on, so I don't think that is a concern.

I would imagine your Inverter's fan would also run while under load producing 120 VAC from the battery bank but it should not need to do that if you are plugged into SP with a proper adapter for your coach and you have no other issues like a faulty Automatic Transfer Switch and no load shedding going on.

So the question is: is your inverter having to make 120 VAC right now? Turn it off and see what happens.

this is a pretty typical issue with Inverter's with 'compartment fans' installed by Thor...they don't want the inverter to get too hot, but these fans have a 'sensor' attached that seem to be more sensitive than they should be, causing the fan to run even when it's been hours and hours since the Inverter has been used on it's own...

You should be able to find the sensor in a wad of wiring between the fan and the inverter, and if you place a piece of ice on it, it will immediately stop.... : )

Ok, thank you for the tips thus far - I’ll check into it some when I’m home from work this evening.

That’s normal. When you are on shore power, it operates a 120 volt bypass relay to send the power to the coach. The combination of the relay generating heat and being in an enclosed area will make the cooling fan operate periodically.
