Pending Appointment with Camping World

I have an appointment pending with Camping World regarding two recall notices that I received from Thor.


1. Windshield Wipers
2. Install bracket to reinforce the steps


I called Camping World in Byron, GA two weeks ago regarding the recall notices. I talked with Kasey in the service department, who informed me that they did not have the repair parts in stock, but she would orderthem and call me when they arrived.


Kasey called yesterday and told me that the parts had arrived. I gave her 5 appointment dates and we decided on September 19. I will make the 2 hour drive and arrive for the 8am appointment. Kasey stated that the repairs will take 2-3 hours.


Hopefully, everything will go according to plan.


I will report back on my experience with the recall repairs.

I tried to get them to send me the parts and I would just do the repairs myself, but I was told (by Thor) that recall repairs must be completed by an authorized repair center.


The recall notice stated that I would have to take my RV to my original dealer; which is Camping World in Columbia, SC, 5.5 hours away. I called Thor and was told to take it to my closest CW.

I'm not sure the factory can 'demand' that you take your RV to any specific 'dealer', but to ANY that is an authorized Thor dealer, which could be very close to your home. CW is by no means the 'only' Thor dealer. These are very simple 'repairs'.

FWIW: The CW in Byron is a good store. I stop there often for RV stocks when traveling I-75. I've gone back and spoke to service peeps about different things and twice they've walked out and looked at things for me. Each day is a new day and it depends on which side of the bed they awoke. I think the bad rap on CW follows the same bad rap scenario of anything else...only the people that had bad experiences are the ones that scream and shout. And NO...this is not a paid advertisement. Good luck with your appointment and give us a report. Call me when you pass through Stockbridge and I'll buy the coffee...there's a new Krispy Kreme here at Exit 228...I'm 2 minutes from there and they all know my name (not good).

Actually, I have a great RV repair center in town called Coachcraft. The problem is they don't do warranty/recall work for Thor because they said they had difficulties getting paid. I have had work done their before at this family owned operation and they do great work at $110 per hour. Fortunately, I can just call them on the phone for most problems and they tell me how to fix it myself. For anything major, you must make an appointment, which can be 3 months out or longer.
