Thor 31W Cameras

I am having a problem with the turn and rear view cameras. To start I have a new head unit and I have replaced the RVS switch.

My cameras act as if there is some sort of interference with them. They come and go and different times. It is not a sudden on/off, it is more of a fade out and on issue. This happens when the motor home is moving or standing still.

Is anyone having a similar issue?

Did this happen before you replaced the head unit and RVS switch?
Why did you replaced the head unit and RVS switch?

Since it happens on all cameras all the time it must be something common to all of them: Power/ground to the switch/cameras, cable from the switch to the head unit, etc.

I changed out. The head unit and RVS because of the trouble I am having. Trying to work it piece by piece.

Sounds like the problem was there before you changed out the head unit and the camera switcher. As Ted indicates there must be some other issue causing the problem. You do not say what kind of camera switcher module you installed but make sure it is compatible with the Ford CAN bus that signals left/right turn signals and transmission reverse. Those triggers tell the RVS module which camera signal to output to the head unit, left, right, or backup.

At this point I would be inclined to put the original equipment back in and verify that the same problem is still there. Next I would disconnect two of the camera input cables from the RVS and test if the system worked properly with only a single camera input. If it did then I would remove that camera and connect one of the others. If that worked I would disconnect that and connect the third. If you verify that all the cameras are working correctly with only one at a time connected then add one more so two are connected. If that works add the third. You are looking for interference between the cameras, most likely caused by a problem with the camera trigger signals. The RVS camera module should not put out any video signal until it receives a trigger from the Ford Body Control module via the CAN bus. It could be that you have a problem with the CAN bus left and right turn, and transmission reverse trigger signals. Sounds like they are ping-ponging the camera RVS module. You could verify this by unplugging the CAN bus cable to the RVS module and see if the problem goes away. You will not get any camera video to the head with this unplugged but you should not see the crazy camera activity if that is the source of your trouble.

If you have a problem with the CAN bus camera trigger signals you may need to get help from Ford. A Ford tech should be able to test the CAN bus and make sure the correct options are set in the Body Control Module.

Also anything transmitting a strong rf signal could also cause that issue
