Thor entry door . That is a poor design

2022 Thor Delano 24rw. Who have had damage to the threshold and or the the door jam (frame) that is attached to the coach and around a entry door.
The strut opens the door and stops the door swing at 90 degrees. And it trys to hold the door open at 90 degrees . My door swings out and moves the threshold and the door jam each time it is opened. The weight of the door and the force of the strut has bent the lower section of the door jam. I can't leave the door open to use the screen door feature because even a light breeze will cause the movement and cause more bending. And i can't leave it open for fear the door will swing all the way back hitting the awning glass of the window next to the door. Thor's excuse is that it is the DESIGN of the coach and they can't change the design. The design has damaged a brand new coach and will continue to do so. I am asking them to replace the awning window with a sliding window. Remove the strut and fold the door back to the side of the coach. Hold it there with a door catch. If it swings back in the wind it will not hit the opened awning window . I don't think they want to omit that they have a useless design on the coach. You can't use the screen door because the entry door will pull the threshold and door jam , bending the lightweight aluminum. And you can't open the awning window because the door might hit the opened glass.

I wasted untold hours in English class learning composition. Little did I know that in my later years I could get free lessons here!

I slept through Algebra class... maybe throw in a refresher?

Thor should at least fix the damage if it is still under warranty (or, IMHO, even if it isn't).

It might not actually be a design problem. Maybe the door jam was not attached as well as it should be or they mistakenly used an inferior part.

In any case, hopefully, the fix will be stronger than the original construction and keep the door jam from bending (and the door from opening too far).

I like the way the door opens like that on our new Thor. I recall it being hard to open the door and exit the RV my parents once owned, especially when carrying things. The door automatically swinging out ninety degrees surprised me at first, but is much more convenient. I will watch for any issues with the door jam.

I removed the strut myself, added a door knob guard on the side of the motorhome and simply don't use that window... It's behind the pop up TV anyway so rarely got used. Most days the door will stay open against the side of the RV without issue allowing me to use the screen door. If it doesn't I use a short bungee to hold it in place.

I agree it's a design flaw but solving it myself seemed like the path of least resistance, knowing the likely hood of getting the manufacturer to solve it was near 0.

If this person is referring to the lift cylinder at the bottom of the door as a for jamb the welcome to the club

My cylinder has come loose from one end or the other at least five times in approx 3 years. I pull off the end, screw it back together and it’s good to go. The next time it happens I am going to add a touch of LocTite.

Question: Is it really a poor design... or just some loose mounting screws?

Before we could read or write, pictures told the story. That still holds true. Post a few pictures of what you're talking about. It sounds like a few loose screws that went unattended for a while and have now become a much bigger problem.

I had a similar setup on my Miramar 34.1. The strut would hold the door open at 90 degrees ... until the next strong wind gust came along and ripped the damn strut off, letting the door slam into the sidewall!

The first two times were repaired under warranty. The third time, still under warranty, I had the mechanic remove the strut completely and put a hook to hold the door wide open against the side of the RV. Problem solved.

The strut on my Hurricane's door came off 1 time but it's not an issue. I almost never camp with the door open.

A text should not be a paragraph. If it is, I will not read it. Call me.
