My 2016 Axis 25.2 is all over the road.

Hello I’m new to this form but I need help. I have a 2016 Thor access 25.2. I bought this in 2018 and made many enjoyable trips with no problems. In 2021 my Michelin tires separated and I was at a place where I couldn’t shop tires, but Goodyear came out and swapped out my two front tires with Goodyear wranglers HT 225-75-16.
I also replaced all of the rear tires with the same. These tires only have about 1700 miles on them.

So since changing these tires, my steering is all over the road. I’ve had front in alignments, I’ve had the tires checked, balanced, and even had a safety plus steering control put on. I’m hoping somebody can help me because these tires have been discontinued, but I am white knuckling my rig when driving. I need a solution. Should I go to a dealer and get rid of these tires and have Michelin‘s put back on?
I live in Florida and I’m currently in Ohio. Afraid to drive back home.

You need to take it somewhere for a good reliable front end inspection. Don’t assume it’s the tires and don’t assume the alignment shop knew the doc between a hole in the ground and their rear end.

If it performed good before those tires, it's got to be the tires unless you had a blowout and it damaged front end. As suggested, get front end inspected. If no issues, go back to what worked.

To be honest, I don’t remember what Michelin tires were on here before they were swapped out with Goodyear’s. This is very sad the Goodyear tires only have about 1500 miles on them.

Though not likely, is it possible the steel belt(s) in one of the front tires shifted?

You had a front end alignment? what were the numbers they aligned it to? You need at least +5 degrees caster on both sides for proper tracking.

As far as the tires go, did you verify they have the proper load capacity? Overloaded tires will cause side-to-side movement.

The alignment casters results are. Drivers side 4 degrees. Passenger side 4 5/8 degrees. They installed new side camber bushings! How do you verify load capacity?

The load index will be a number on the tire sidewall which follows the tire size (HT 225-75-16) designation. From that number there are index charts readily available online that will show a corresponding load capacity in lbs. for each tire.

My tires show size 225/70R19.5
Load index is 128/126 (128 single 126 when used as duals)
Load range is G 14 ply

Load Index is what you want to know for how much can this tire carry.

If you have all the manuals that came with it new, there should be a tire brochure/flyer type pamphlet that will tell you what OEM tire came with it. Ford customer service could probably help.you with that also. They have all the build records including the tire serial numbers...if you can find someone there that cares enough to look it up.for you.

Have someone else drive it for a while to see if it is actually squirrelly or if YOU have changed your driving style and the tires are happenstance.
Hopefully someone experienced can tell what's wrong by driving it.

All over the road
As a symptom
Isn't even worth guessing at.

Some here would guess condensation....

My 2015 Vegas 24.1 came with Michelin LT225/75R16. Those were probably what the Michelins were that you replaced.

I found a Goodyear dealer with RV capabilities. He is going to check the alignment. Check the tires everything underneath and drive it. My appointments on Thursday so keep your fingers crossed. We figure it out. Thank you everyone

I do know from my own experience with 2016 vegas 24.1 that putting max sidewall air pressure in front tires made it wander terribly. Weighed it and found 75 PSI to be optimum. Handled fine after.

Another item worth noting is at same time crown wore off tires and may have also helped handling. Crown being rounded section of tread incontact with ground.

New bigger class C handles fine. Some may be me being used to unique handling of twin I beam suspension.
