Question Thor Vegas 24.1 2015 Electrical issues

We have a short in our Vegas. It's cutting power to the generator and the front led screen, including the radio. I can't find anything else that isn't working. Is there a fuse I should be looking for? I can't find anything on the fuses or how to reset the system. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Shorts don't cut power, they cause excessive current and blow breakers, fuses and melt things. This creates an OPEN which interrupts power.

When you say GENERATOR I assume you mean for starting the generator?

What's the status of your house batteries? Both the generator and the radio are powered from the house batteries.

Are your interior lights working when NOT connected to SP?

The better you can describe all the symptoms of your problem, the better we can help.

Everything works as if the generator were off intentionally, except the center console screen and radio. Batteries seem just fine.

This started in the summer where it just went out and came immediately back on. Then one trip it went out and we just couldn't get the generator on at all. That's when we figured out they were connected somehow. As soon as we started back from that trip, it all came back on. I figured we had some sort of short and when we hit a bump, it was triggering it.

Last month, we went on a trip, hit a bump and it went off again. We backtracked and hit the bump 2 more times to see if it would come back on, no luck. It's still out now. The battery connections look good.

We bought her used about 1 year ago. Before this I had a vintage airstream I completely renovated myself and had no trouble tinkering with... this is a different animal and don't want to hurt her.

That sounds more like a loose wire than a short. Making an intermittent connection somewhere.

"Couldn't get the generator on at all"? Do you mean start the generator?

Have you checked the connections to the battery(ies) under the steps? Or the breaker found under the steps?

I can't start the generator at all, from inside or on the actual unit. The battery connections under the stairs look good, nice and tight. I don't see anywhere to reset them.

What about the ground line where it connects to the frame? An often overlooked connection.

Where might I find that connection? Near the batteries or the generator? I can't seem to find an electric diagram for my unit online.

Thank you!

You would have to follow the - wire from the battery.

The closest thing you can get to a wiring diagram is by logging into Thor. Go here and create an account (have your VIN handy). You should be able to download a bunch of documentation about your coach even for a 2015 (there is a bunch of docs for my coach and its a 2014).

Have you found the 100 amp DC breaker in the battery compartment and reset it?

Do you have a voltmeter and know how to use it?

I have not found the dc breaker in the battery compartment. Can you assist me finding this.
I do have a voltmeter, but I'd have to find it. I used to use it on my old unit.

I set up an account with Thor, but my unit vin shows a 2016 40' tuscany, not what I actually own! I'm going back out to see if I have a different vin somewhere. I might need to call Thor next week and see what's up with that.

I'm sure someone with your same MH model will reply. I've heard it's difficult to find on the 24.1s, maybe even under the MH below the steps.

In ours the DC house breaker is next to the batteries under the step mounted on the left metal wall back under the floor (left as you're standing outside the motorhome looking in the door; e.g. towards the rear and towards the center of the motorhome).

(Note: Axis/Vegas are essentially the same motorhome; since yours is a 2015 it is about the same vintage as our 2014 Axis.)

Thinking simple...do you have the switch at the bottom of the door entry in the correct position...when it is in "store" position the power to the radio is cut off. You would also not have lights or anything else 12 volt running if it is in "store". Good luck

Do you access it from the step or from below looking up into the step?

Its under the step where the battery(ies) are.

Sadly I do not have any pictures to clearly illustrate it.

Is this it? I pressed the Red button, nothing happened. What does the yellow switch do? I was afraid to test it!

Yes that is it. The red button tests the breaker (e.g. "pops" it).

What you want to do is press the yellow flag into the breaker until it clicks. When the flag is out the breaker has tripped ("popped").

That was it! I popped the yellow flag and it all came on!! It looks like the battery was loose and when we hit the bump it moved and tripped it. Thank you so much.
