Hi Dave

I thought it would be better for the Flex to dolly it since it is front wheel drive. I don't have to deal with the transmission being put in neutral and leaving the ignition turned on for the times we are driving. The Acme EZE Car Dolly System needs the steering wheel to not be locked up while towing and our Flex's steering wheel does not lock up when turned off. It gives us an option of taking the flex or not.

Paul

Check your owner's manual. For 2014 they should have a Neutral Tow option and that would allow you to select that option, keep the trans in Park, take the key out and tow away. That was the same as my 2014 Lincoln MKZ. Not trying to change you mind, but rather provide insight on the vehicles options/features.

As it turns out, this is the first time in over 50 years where I haven't had a Ford parked in the driveway or garage. Freightliner motorhome and Jeep Grand Cherokee TOAD.

Hi Dave

My ignition switch does not use a key (keyless ignition) and only has a push button. I will check it out to see if there is the neutral tow option for the car.

I always like to have options.

Paul

Hi Dave

You are correct about the 4 wheels down towing for my 2014 Ford Flex. I just would have to place the trans in neutral and have to start the car before heading out each day for 5 minutes and run it between drive and reverse a few times. Every 6 hours I would have to run the engine. That gives me something else to look into for towing it.

Thank you for the information.

Paul

After reviewing all your advice, I spoke with etrailer and found out that my Honda Civic can not be flat towed ( 4 wheels on ground ), because it is not a manual transmission. Which didn't make sense, because I had both options, tow dolly and four wheels down, when looking into it with Camping World.

Camping World should not be giving advice or recommendations on anything other than the location of the nearest reputable dealer or towing service.

I usually check three places
1. Owners manual
2. https://www.motorhome.com/download-dinghy-guides/
3. Dealer

I use a master tow dolly for towing a ford 2017 ford escort and 2018 honda accord, and never had any issues with the tow dolly hitting the sides of the car.
Make sure that the car is centered on the dolly and that the steering wheel is locked or tied down. We also only use pull through camp sites.

We used a Master Tow for years. I will add that there are two sizes of the Master Tow. There is the 77 and the 80 with the 80 being the widest and able to accommodate some larger vehicles (width wise).
