TPO Roof and Lap Sealant? Ultra? Regular?

Anyone have experiences using regular lap sealant on TPO roof?

Green lap sealant tube says designed for "some TPO" roofs.

Blue lap sealant tube (ultra lap sealant) is formulated for TPO roofs. It is a two part process - primer and lap sealant.

It would hate to throw out two lap sealant tubes.

I have always used the Dicor self leveling sealant and non leveling sealant depending on the application.

Just clean the area of the TPO roof and apply. I have been using it for 3+ years and have not had one issue. Not that I had issues in the first place, I am just anal about the RV being sealed properly and on my last RV, from the factory left little to be desired when it came to sealing the roof properly.

I second what RVnut says, regular Dicor lap sealant works just fine on TPO.

Thanks fellas.

Do you use minerals spirits, acetone, or denatured alcohol in TPO roof?

What do you use to clean when you are adding and removing lap sealant on TPO roof?

Use a PLASTIC scraper to get the goo off, do NOT use a metal scraper, to much risk of cutting the membrane. You don't have to get every scrap of old stuff off, its soft and the new will cover what you don't remove. Do try to get as much as possible, leaving a little is ok.

Thanks fellas for the replies.

I was referring specifically to the prep of the actual surface before dicor is applied.

I saw a video by Mark Polk (RV Education 101) and he used denatured alcohol on a TPO roof before applying dicor.

If you need to prep the surface first then denatured alcohol is what you need. Lowes, Home Depot, and most hardware stores carry denatured alcohol in quart cans.
