Traveling in snow
Starting a snowbird trip to Texas in the morning. Looking forward to traveling again. But snow and 17 degrees tonight. Oh goody!

It was 81 and sunny here in the Austin metro today. February weather on the horizon for next week, temps in the 50s to the 70s, sun, clouds, rain. It seems to flip flop all over the place. Safe travels and don't forget to hit the first Bucee's you come across.

I think it was Easter, 1969: they forecast flurries; so we drove on through them to a Cousin's hose... All 24" worth of them!

I have only been is San Antonio for 44 months but we have seen snow once, Dec 7, 2017. It started snowing about 4 am in the morning, temperature 29 degrees and when it stopped about 9 am we had 1.9 inches officially on the ground. By 2 pm is was 42 degrees bright and sunny. The most amount of snow to land in one day at San Antonio is 13.2 inches (33.5 centimetres) on January 12, 1985. NW San Antonio is the southern end of what is known as "The Hill Country". Snow can really stick when you a ways up into the hills, say Fredericksburg.

we were all packed ready to leave the next day and my sister called and said HEY its snowing in san antonio...i laughed and told her she was nuts...then looked out the window

OP here....21 degrees and an inch or so of snow with ice under it when we started out this morning. Treacherous until we got out of the residential streets then just flurries. 45 now in Kentucky. Unwinterized and all is good save for both vehicles are white with salt. Long range forecast showing a night of 17 degrees one night next week in Texas. Ah well. It’s good to be on the road again.

I've made the decision I will not be taking the Magnitude out in any potential snow conditions..... even with 4WD... and not because of the road conditions.
When you look at how things like the leveling power unit, wiring and other systems are exposed under the chassis any road salt would just tear everything up and wreak havoc.

I try to avoid snow and or ice and drive many miles often on alternate routes. Every fall and spring we get caught somewhere that requires driving a stretch of the route and the ensuing cleanup is the pits for the Tuscany and Towed
Sometimes it is just a 50 mile segment or so but still requires the same diligence in the clean up and associated cost
So I agree, when possible avoid it but if you do get road crud wash carefully very throroughly soon as possible
