Tv Mount. Seeking advice.

Hi,
Our Seiki tv, mounted over the front cab, has died.
I bought a 40" Vizio that barely squeaks into the fixed vertical dimension of 20.4" on the installed bracket.
Most TVs of this size seem to be 21 or 22" high and would not fit. To be clear, the bracket/mount is not adjustable.

The mounting holes on the back of the Vizio do not line up with the preset holes.
They are a much smaller pattern.

See attached photo for details.

Since the bottom of the TV will rest on the handle portion of the mount, how could I securely mount the tv to the bracket?

I am open to suggestions but am thinking about using Velcro strips.

Just a thought: What is currently in place (the metal bracket) looks solid enough to support a normal wall mount that WILL fit the TV. You MIGHT have to shim out a bit for the wall mount to work but...

Did the old tv fit in those holes? It might have the bracket on it.

Hi Wayne,

There is no bracket on the old tv. It mounted directly to the existing bracket.

I thought that VESA mounts were standard sizes and, perhaps they are, but in this case, the old tv has wide spaced holes and the mounting holes on the new tv are much closer. Maybe that is the standard, wide or narrow.

Given that that may be the case, I may be able to find a "conversion" bracket that will work.

Yeah, there are VESA hole mount standards, but there are many of them from 75x75 mm up to 800x600 mm. You probably have a 200x200 or 400x400.

So either buy a second mount as previously mentioned or drill your own holes and use stand-offs if necessary.

If the hole pattern on the tv is smaller, drill new holes in the existing mount to match the tv hole pattern. Unless I'm missing something in the details??

I think that this will work. It is a VESA adapter plate that adapts to the different spacing of the mounting holes.

I'll try to find one locally so that I can get the job done tomorrow.

That won't work for two reasons.

The plate is for adapting a small mount (75x75) to large TV holes (200x200). How could you possibly screw it in both directions in your case?

Your holes on the mount look much larger than 200x200 - I'm guessing at least 600x400.

Just me, but if you go that route I would use metal strapping with holes and secure it with screws, lock washers and nuts... as opposed to Velcro. But then I have a habit of over-engineering simple jobs...

I wouldn't do it that way. You're talking about mounting in an RV with vibrations & bumps. Sooner or later, it's going down. Get a wall mount that fits it and mount the wall mount on the existing surface.

An update:

As I feared, the mounting holes on the large adapter plate that I purchased did not match up with the mounting holes on the rv mount once the plate was attached to the tv.

The tv weighs only 6 lbs and I ended up purchasing some 3m double sided super strong tape that claims to hold 60 lbs. Tape on back of tv and glued directly to the large metal plate on the rv mount. It seems secure and time will tell if this is a good (and wise) solution.

In any event, it buys me some time to find a more permanent mounting bracket.
It is more challenging find one than it appears as the mount rotates upward to allow access to the storage area behind the tv.

Still likely have to take the mounting device down for better access but...

You can make a simple template for making new mounting holes with a piece of cardboard that is about the same size as the TV.
With the TV face down on something soft and put in the mounting screws. Lay the cardboard over the back of the unit, lineup square, and press down well enough that the screw heads make marks on the cardboard. Punch holes where the marks are. The holes in the cardboard should be pretty close to where they need to be so fit up the template and mark the new holes. A small round file or Dremel tool and some flat washers can give you the needed slop/slot for 'exact' fit.
Would not trust an adhesive for a long term solution.

Tape is not a long term solution as mentioned above. MonoPrice.com will have a shallow mount that will work. It also tilts. Attach it to the big metal plate.

Make a template of the back of your current TV and drill your bracket to fit. You might look at a full motion TV mount and mount it to your bracket.

3M has industrial double stick tape. Sounds like that is what you used. 3M also makes a tape primer that really adds strength to the bond. With that TV mounted with the shock and vibrations of the road over time, a proper mount will be needed. Otherwise a new TV as well.

That looks like a good idea with the Velcro. I use swing arm mounts with magnets to keep the TV in place while in motion. This gives me easy access behind the TV.
