underbody repair

I have some minor repair to do to the underbody of my travel trailer (starcraft 19CK hybrid. I have 2 questions:

1. In the attached photo, you can see the bottom corner where the edging comes together (circled yellow in pic). Is it supposed to be open or do I need to fill this with sealant?

2. The underbody covering has pulled away from the edging (red box in pic) so I have purchased some flex bend RV belly repair tape. Should I remove the edging and secure the tape underneath it or just tape up to the edge?

Thanks for the help
