A few months ago I posted about a problem I was having with my Xantrex Pro 1800 Inverter. I was having intermittent problems with it pooping out, giving low voltage errors, etc. Today I finally figured out the problem. After load testing the batteries, measuring the output of the cables at the inverter and isolating and measuring the voltage across each battery cable I could not reproduce the problem. Then it occurred to me - leave the system on with a voltmeter hooked up in the battery bay and at the terminal ends for the inverter and start wiggling wires. BINGO.
This is the in-line fuse coming out of the battery bay to the inverter. The arrow is pointing to the loose connection.
Here I am under the rig giving the wiring bundles a wiggle. I could see the connection rotating on the post.
Once I got a wrench on the post it turned nearly 1.5 times before getting snug. After this everything worked perfectly.
Thanks to everyone who has pitched in to help me on this. I hope my learning can help someone else troubleshoot an error faster than it took me. Bottom line - intermittent problems can nearly always be tracked back to a connection or exposed wire.
