Ford V10 Oil Change

Traveling I-10 to AZ and Sweetheart needs an oil change. Anyone know a good trustworthy place to get it done?

Thanks in advance.

X2 for Ford. Not every dealer will work on RVs. But find one that will. They’ll do a chassis inspection while they have it.

Not all Ford dealers will work on the F53, you could check the following website to see if there is a Ford Commercial near you or on your way.

He has a Class 'C' on an E450 chassis. Most Ford dealers will do oil changes and inspections on their van chassis.

Just noticed your post and we also have a Ford V10 on our Chateau 2018 23U . You can do the oil change yourself . Get the oil filter and oil from Ford or Advantage Auto zone parts . Our oil plug takes a 5/8" inch wrench size . Our filter is a FOMOCO , 773630214646 oil filter. The Auto zone sells oil containers to catch the oil. Hope you have a good day.

I put the wrong oil filter number in post . The number of the filter is FOMOCO 3W7E6714BA , SORRY about that.

No worries. Thank for all of that - really. I stopped doing my own oil changes for having difficulty finding a place to dispose of the oil and I really don't have the room for the drain pan, as finding a container to store it in until it can be properly disposed.

Thanks again. I'm in NM now and will ask around.

Take care and safe travels.

Well, about that....the Ford 6.8 in an RV is, hands down, the easiest oil change you’ll ever do. The large ground clearance gives easy access and the filter is right next to the oil pan, hanging vertically with the open end up. It’s easy to change without even much spillage. If you put on a fumoto drain valve the whole deal is about 15 minutes without spilling a drop or using a wrench. (Though do beware that some genius ford engineer positioned the oil pan drain right where it will drain onto a cross member on the E series chassis and make a big mess. The solution is the aforementioned fumoto valve and a short length of plastic tubing). I’ve seen dealers advertise RV oil change “specials” of $130 or so and you can do it yourself with Mobil 1 synthetic for about $40. I don’t do my cars anymore for the reasons you state but I do my MH. Good luck.

I believe that. Thanks for trying to help me. Where do you keep your drain pan? I don't think the Chateau changed that much between 17 & 18.

Thank you. Unfortunately I've already past St. Augustine. Attended boot camp there. Beautiful place.

4 simple words: DO NOT STOP HERE

The children in charge don't know customer service and my RV suffered significant damage in their tight lot.

Call the Ford dealership first. Not all can work on an RV. I hope you are NOT traveling I-10 through Texas. I think that is the worse highway in the country. We traveled it last May and our RV was all over the road.

Have Amsoil installed in your rv. It’s full synthetic and good for 25,000 miles or one year.

I did and you're right. I got it changed at Walmart. I watched the whole thing from the end of the bay. They didn't do everything they claimed but they changed the oil and filter. I watched them pull the oil from the synthetic container. The only disappointing part was I got the synthetic oil change but the sticker on the windshield says another one in 3k miles when the Attendant told me 6k.

I tow, so 6k is reasonable. Too many people doing things (hierarchy). No one responsible from end to end. Guessing guy changing oil didn't know he used synthetic? Not buying it. Will keep watch and try to rub out another 3k on the oil.

About the travel: Actually going from Las Cruces to Tucson in a wind storm was worse. Poor RV got tossed around like a bed sheet. Headwind all the way. The RV actually downshifted in cruise control when the wind blew hard enough.

In Yuma now. Nice ride out here but the wind is heavy during the day.

Past Texas. Didn't lose anything there so don't see myself going back. AZ taxes are hard to figure out if you're tracking expenses so either get savvy or toss in the towel. It changes as you change counties.

Safe travels to you and yours. Take care.

Please see response to GrayDawg. Even if I tow?

They may claim so (25,000), but I do not think it is good for any type of motor oil, to go beyond a 5-6000 mile interval before changing.
The manufacturer recommends every 3000 miles.
My opinion on that, however, if you do go that route, change the filter only every 5000 miles and add a little oil to make up the tiny loss.
BTW, our Ford V10 uses seven quarts to fill it back up on an oil change.
