Vegas 24.1 step failure

Last trip we had the rubber cover on the second step into the Vegas fail. By this I mean the glue holding the rubber sheet on top of the step liquefied and when I stepped out onto the second step the small crews holding the rubber in place failed and I went shooting out the door. It was like there was oil under there instead of glue. It was a warm day (85F max) and we were just starting to pack up to leave so the door was open for 10 minutes with direct sun light on the steps. otherwise the air conditioning had been on and the motorhome was being kept at 69-70F. It was about 75F when I pulled rubber off today to start the repairs and you can see how liquid the glue still is.

Questions:
- has anyone else had this happen?
- has anyone repaired theirs and what glue/adhesive did you use under the rubber? The metal is painted, shiny, and slippery; I assume I would want to rough it up to have any adhesive stick well.

Thor had a recall about this very thing.

At least our 2014 was recalled and the steps re-glued (I think it was heat related: They would come unglued if they got too hot).

Prior to trading our 2014 in I had noticed that the steps pads were coming loose again.

What year is yours?

The slippage didn't happen to us but we have changed ours to carpet.
Carpet of choice and four screws.
Very easy.

Soon, when I move the batteries it will be changed to this.

(These, or those like them, are self stick and I mean really really self stick)

The Thor installed mat is a menace on the best of days.

2021 Vegas step repair

I like the carpet idea. Have to pass that decision by the better half for style.

For now I just applied some Goo Gone to the step and rubber and it cleaned up nicely. Man the steel step was slippery just in and of itself. Used some Loctite Super Glue Gel adhesive and put the 5 screws back in place plus one more on the top-back-center. Nice and solid for now.

I can see why they recalled the RVs for this issue though - I really went for a slide out the door.

My top step has slowly slid forward several times but never became slippery like that. It's the one over the batteries and maybe opening and closing has been a contributor. Last time I just pulled it loose, clean it up with gasoline and re-glued it plus drilled and placed 6 shallow screws along the inside edge. It sleeps well now.
