Vegas door will not stay shut

We have a 2021 Vegas 24.1. We purchased it used and the dealer did their typical inspection check. We did the cursory check and everything seemed normal. However when we began driving on some bumpy roads we kept having the door open while traveling. When we double checked it we found a) the bolt will not engage into the door frame, and b) the latch only seems to engage partially when we give it a good slam. I was able to use a file and open up the door frame hole so it properly engages so at least we can travel safely. However I do not really want to slam the door every time to have the latch engage. It looks like if the screen door was thinner or the plastic frame on the door handle was thinner it would allow the door to close a bit more but modifying either of these does not seem the way to go.

Is there a way to adjust the door or latch to allow the latch to engage the door post better?

IIRC, I had to grind some out to make the bolt line up. You are right not to slam the door. There are lot's of post here about the door locks breaking. Not sure if there is any adjustment to the catch.

A couple of decades ago I was filing on the striker plate when a neighbor came over and taught me how to adjust

Here are a couple of threads that should help.

fo me the gap was too great, so I put a washer in back of the plate on the door frame to move it out so it matched up better. worked great for me after that.

Vegas door will not stay shut

Thanks for the ideas everyone. Very helpful.

abjbrtd - the second link shows a door like we have. Will try modifying the post first.

Thanks again.

Vegas door won't stay shut

I always travel with the door locked with both the regular and deadbolt locked.

Adjusting the post worked nicely. Quick and easy. Have to see if the post stays in the same location after some bumpy roads.

I've had to adjust the striker and the deadbolt a couple of times on ours. I forget off the top of my head exactly where the adjustment is but I'd say it's a standard part of a Vegas 24.1 ownership

The other thing that happens is the door may bind slightly due to frame twist if you are parked at an awkward angle or use leveling jacks to tweak the frame too much ... so do any adjustments on a flat, level surface.

But thankfully I haven't had the door fly open ... that seems ... might make me nervous enough to throw a bungee cord from the stair to the latch if unsure
