Vegas generator

I want to do a oil change on my onboard onan 4000 gas generator I will be using it In below freezing weather the table says to use 15w40 but I am concussed that is a thicker oil and it says it is for diesel engines has anybody used this in a gas engine any help appreciated. Thanks.I am also going to use it in extreme heat as well 100 degrees +

Below freezing temps I would go with a 5W30. 15 - 40 in cold weather might be hard to crank over.

The 4000 KY generator is splash lubricated and thus does not have an oil pump or oil filter. Cold weather starts with 15 weight oil are fine if the generator is not loaded until the crank's dipper has a chance to spread the oil around.
