Velvac Mirrors Bleeding Rust??

It appears the Velvac #719937 mirrors on my 2019 Thor A.C.E. 30.2 are "bleeding rust". On both mirrors, there is rust staining around the mirror mount and also staining running down the side of the body. I can only assume water has got behind the mirror.

Anyone else had this issue? Likely another bang-up sealing job by Thor I'm sure ... I mean, I just got through replacing the rear tail lights!

I wonder if replacement gaskets available or is there another solution to this sort of problem?

Can you remove the mirrors, and see what is going on?
I'd contact a good autonbody shop: they take stuff apart every day for a living.
Good luck!

Those mirrors aren't anything to remove yourself.
It's quite a contortion and a bazillion parts.
I don't think mine had any raw iron part inside of it except for the big screw holding it to the body.
I'd hit it with some vinegar or naval jelly and seal it in place with some neatly applied silicone.

There's a you tube channel
.Tito learns rv's
Or something like that.
He has a blown take off of those mirrors in a video.

I wouldn't worry much about a factory gasket. Formagasket or silicone or any gasket material cut to fit.

No rust on my 2016 mirrors but the chrome is flaking off of both of them, especially the passenger side.

No rust, but chrome flaking like 16ACE27. I contacted Velvac directly and they sent replacements. No charge.

Perhaps it's bacterial.
Some caulk in showers grow red stuff.

I'm kinda old school... Does it taste like rust?

Nahhh ... I ain't tasting it.

I did just notice, in comparing pictures to others, that Thor decided mine didn't need the covers that conceal the mounting hardware.

I'm seeing the same thing on a new mirror that was replaced last year, drivers side. The other mirror (original 2019 ACE 32.1) shows nothing.

MH is stored under a shed & hasn't seen rain since the first of this year.

I took the broken mirror apart, it's almost all aluminum, except for the post that allows the mirror to turn & a few wires for the heat & mirror movement.

On mine (SOB) these mirrors are caulked/sealed around the sides and top. Yours don’t appear to be and I can’t think of any downside to gooping them up. Neatly, of course!

I read on this forum that those mirrors are a source of water intrusion, especially when driving into a hard rain. Mine on drivers side showing rust as well. I sealed it up with Geocell. Haven’t seen the rust since.

The company has a two year warranty on the mirrors and they shipped me a free replacement of my two bases for my Axis.

Glad to read that they stood by their product.

Using stainless screws in Thor ACE's

I have commented on this before. I have a 2012 ACE 29.2. Thor used zinc coated screws and many have rusted out. I have replaced most with stainless screws, sometimes having to drill out the old screws because the heads were bad. How much more would it cost Thor to use stainless screws in their Class A products? Since I buy only stainless for use around the farm, I know the answer is not much - probably something on the order of an extra $25, an insignificant cost for something as expensive as a Class A, but something that would help hold the value of their products. I told Thor about this several years ago, but I'd be surprised if they listened. I assume they're still using zinc plated steel screws that rust out.

This is a replacement mirror, original was knocked off near Mobile AL by a truck in the next lane.

Passenger side mirror is original, no rust.
