Warning Chimes

Good evening all,

I have a new 2017 Vegas 24.1 and among the relatively minor problems is the fact that none of my warning chimes work - that's seat belts, key in ignition, lights on and probably others that I can't think of. I assume it's a fuse issue, but knowing very well the pitfalls of the word "assume," it could be something else. However, proceeding with the fuse option, I consulted my Ford E-Series owners manual and looked at the long, long list of fuses without seeing anything that mentioned warning chimes or something similar. Need to get this fixed before my battery goes dead because I left my lights on.

Suggestions?

Bob

Wow, this is something I never thought of with our 2016 24.1 Axis. No chimes on ours either. If you find them, let us all know.

Remember too, that this is what they call a "stripped chassis" and things that would be on a regular E series cab equipped vehicle would not necessarily be included.

Our 2017 Axis also has no chimes - thank goodness! It's a blessing, not a problem.

No chimes on our Axis either and I agree: A blessing.

You're going to want to put on battery disconnect switches anyway for other reasons than leaving the headlights on.

But then you have to remember to use them.

It just becomes habit: Every time I leave the storage lot I check to make sure the disconnects are disconnected.

I don't have an axis but have noticed that most class A's don't have safety airbags either. Given the flat fiberglass front cap that offers little protection in a crash it's something to think about. You'd think there would be at least a driver's bag in the steering wheel. But, no...

I think there is a driver's airbag on our 2016 Axis but I always keep one thing in mind with a Class A. Sorry two things..... they aren't built for crash protection and they aren't built to be fire resistant. I certainly couldn't buy one if they were because I couldn't afford it. Chimes are something I can do without.

Very easy to add a headlight buzzer... After finding my lights on multiple times returning to the RV in rest stops - decided I wanted something.
So borrowed from my addition to a 1970 Dodge years ago...

All you need is one of these - or anything similar... less than $5:
https://www.amazon.com/9-15V-HYD-421...dp/B00HG7H2TM/
And two power sources:
  • 12v only when lights are on
  • 12v only when ignition is on
I found both in the drivers armrest...

The 12v light source is the backlighting for the switches (actually gives you a volume control - the volume from the buzzer varies with the dash brightness... lol)
The 12v ignition source is power to the heated mirror switch (input to switch so doesn't need heated mirrors on...

The wiring is extremely difficult (kidding)...
Attach one wire from the buzzer to the light source - the other to the ignition source - and test... If it doesn't work right - reverse the wires... no harm done. (If I remember right - the red wire goes to the light source... but again doesn't hurt anything if backwards...)

To test:
Turn on lights with ignition off - buzzer sounds
Turn on ignition - buzzer silences

Current can flow through the buzzer in only one direction.
When the lights are on - and ignition off - current flows through the buzzer and it sounds... Any other configuration provides either no power - power to both sides... or power to the 'wrong side' only - and the buzzer remains silent.

Not rocket science by any means. Cheapest mod I've done.

Thanks all.

I wouldn't have believed that there were no warning chimes. I know that they can be a pain, but when you've passed "three score and ten" like me, a little reminder is often very helpful. Guess I'll just have to adjust and perhaps make a little reminder for myself in the cab.

I enjoy the peace and quiet...

Stick a "No Warning Chimes" sign on your sunvisor...
