Water Heater element

Thor 31Z: I would like to check and replace the heating element. I do not have a diagram and do not know where to start this job.
Thanks for your suggestions. H

Although there are electric "Instant Water Heaters" which have electric elements, I believe all on-demand water heaters in RVs are propane heated, are they not?

I was under this same assumption as I thought you needed the burner in order to generate the heat required.

The tankless hot water heater is a propane system without an element to be changed.

I mis-spoke: I have a 6 gal tank, not instant.

I believe you are correct. I was in error - I have a 6 gal tank.

Well then, that makes a bit of a difference.

The electric element is on the inside part of the water heater - same area as the water connections and bypass valve.

If you have an EMS, just check the amperage draw when you turn the 120 volt water heater element on. Look for an 11 amp increase in current.

Beau388 has nailed the easy way

Always have water in the heater before turning on the 120v element

They don't heat air very long

If the issue is not getting hot water on electric, look on the outside and there might be a small rocker switch which is to turn off the 120v heating element. Or look for 2 reset buttons under a rubber cover, press them and perhaps reset the circuit.

If its a Atwood, the heating element is in the back of the tank requiring removal of the tank. The Thor Palazzo has a access panel in the back of the water heater bracket, but is almost impossible to work on without a grease pit to stand in. It's easier to just pull the water heater out. Ill give Thor credit. The made the hoses and electrical wires long enough to completely remove the tank from the RV.
