wax/sealant/protectant

Does anybody know--is there a specific product out there that is used on aluminum?
I just bought an aluminum flow thru, notched tailgate. It's polished up real nice right now, and I would like to keep it that way. My experience with aluminum is it seems to want to oxidize and turn black.

Lloyd, I had a Husky aluminum V notched tailgate on my old Dodge for 5 years. All I ever did was wax it when I waxed the truck and never had any issue. George B. bought it from me when I got the Chevy and as far as I know it still looks like new.

Lloyd you could spray it with a clear sealer, make certain that it is a poly type some of the lessor brands will chip or peal. If you got this route make sure that all of the grease and oil is removed before treating

I agree with Keith. The tailgate looks like it was purchased yesterday. I have not thought about waxing it, but I will do that the next time I wax the truck.

Frank, I had thought of doing a clear sealer, but then thought about the inevitable scratches. I guess they do have a product out that is specifically for aluminum which they use more on wheels. That might be due to the brake dust and other road grime.
I think I'm going to go with the wax, and use up some of the multiple containers sitting around here.

Truck had been great, pretty much what I hoped for driving around. Power like you wouldn't believe. Gas mpg not bad. My trips around are only about 4 mile round trips down and up my mountain about 14.3 mpg. Trips to my dauther in Baltimore about 21 mpg. Only have 2650 miles on truck. Waiting for spring to really test it out with the 5er.

Lloyd:
Try White Diamond metal polish and sealant.I am totally Impressed with it on both my bumpers and the aluminum rims. No harder than waxing and polishing the trailer.A friend heard about it from some truckers and We really like it

Hey Eric, good to hear from you again.
Thanks for the tip, but you know what I did with that tailgate? I was so disappointed when I seen it, I had the darn thing painted tuxedo black to match the truck.

The garage that painted it told me the same thing.
Came out real good. Matches the truck perfect.
