Water pump repair

Question, is it necessary to drain the fw tank before replacing the pump?

NO. What makes you think you would? You can also rebuild your pump instead of buying a new one. Amazon is your friend.

Saw a post recently that suggested it. Didn't see why it's necessary. Replacing old pump with new one. Gonna rebuild old pump for a spare. Thanks

When I removed the strainer for cleaning on my Chateau, I had 30 gallons of water leaking into my RV from the Fresh Water tank.
I would drain the tank prior to any repair.

Just make sure you drain your FW tank so the water level is below pump level otherwise you will have a mess. If the water is above pump level then the head pressure in the FW tank will push water out of the tank - that gravity thing. And, if you are really lucky it might create a siphon and pull a lot of water out. My assistant brewer goes home at least twice a week with wet shoes because he forgets about gravity.

Mine has a valve and a strainer on the suction side

If you have a valve simply close it, no valve then drain

After repairs or pump exchange it is a good idea to treat your tank with some disinfectant if you use the water for potable use

I am assuming your hands aren't perfectly clean and the work area is usually in the wet bay which just might have black and grey tank outlets
