Vibration in the steering wheel

Does anyone else have vibration in the steering wheel?

I’ve had it at 3 different tire stores and they all balanced the tires. So it’s clearly not a balancing issue.

I’m beginning to think it is just the way these big rigs drive. I don’t expect to drive like my car but is a bit of vibration normal?

It’s a 2017 Thor Windsport 34j, just bought it a month ago so it’s under warranty. I’m also wondering if it’s because it sat on the lot for so long the tires are just bad..

My wheel shakes too, sometimes a lot and other times not so much. It settled down after I installed the Roadmaster RSSA stabilizer. I hope some solutions pop up.

Did you get an alignment done? I wore out two front tires prematurely, much cheaper to get it aligned. Jerry

2nd on the alignment.

After that take it to a tire place: maybe one of them is out of round.

Thank you all for the responses. It’s at the Ford dealership now getting diagnosed. I’ll update as to what they find.

As mentioned it could be an out of round tire, or an internal belt in the tire that is out of place. No its not normal to have vibrations in the steering, that is not generated by uneven road conditions.

Ford dealer did a diagnostic check on it today. Said that the vibration is within normal limits. Nothing they could do, he said I could try new tires but doubts it would improve much.

I think I would have an issue with a vehicle that generated its own vibration, with perfectly true and balanced tires on a smooth surface. Ford has been building vehicles for 115 years and they are telling you they haven't figured out a way to not have its own front suspension and steering linkage generate its own vibration????? I have had many vehicles both large and small over the many years I have been driving, and have never had any of them generate its own vibrations, without something wrong, or worn components. I think I would contact Ford directly. Try to get in writing from your dealer, that your vehicles vibrations are normal for that vehicle. If possible see if you can get an independent shop to trouble shoot it and give you an written estimate for fixing it. Would strengthen your case when dealing with Ford.

Mine started vibrating and I took it to my tire guy. The tires were 4 years old and had some VERY MINOR cracking that I thought wouldn't be noticeable. Had him put new tires on and it was perfect. Frustrated cause they were only 4 yrs old but glad I got the vibration gone.

Did you replace all the tires or just the front?

I replaced them all figuring that maybe they were all having minor cracking. Class C, 6 new Michelins, $1,350 and huge peace of mind.

That’s not too bad. The quote to replace all 6 on mine was $3700.

I just took another look at your original posting and saw that you have a 2017. Tires might have a date of 2016 so I can't believe they would be cracking that soon but who know without a detailed inspection. That FL sun beating down on them???? Did you look at the date code?

Last comment, sorry. Yours is a Class A so tires are much more than my Class C. Good luck.

Thank you Gary, yes it was certainly an eye opener. I think I’m going to get the fronts replaced. I think it just sat too long in the hot sun.

I have to agree the front tires. I also would replace. I do remember in the 80s when we took the motorhomes in for a balancing they would also shave the tires meaning shave some rubber off the tires to balance them. I'm not sure they still do that.

We have a 2018 29M and our steering wheel vibrates (shakes)with bumps on a rough road. I had the dealer look at it, alignment done and had the shop look at it while there. When I had Safe-T-Plus and chf done they also checked the front end. Still not convinced that it was normal for my steering column to bounce around with bumps I test drove a 35M while ours was at the dealer for warrenty work. It did exactly the same thing so that was the final proof I needed all was normal but still annoying.

Is it a slight shimmy? Mine tracks well, rides ok but it’s just a little shimmy, vibration. It’s not un drive able just annoying. It happens at all speeds..
