Water shutoff

One problem fixed on our extended trip and now another pops up. When flushing the head the water sometimes doesn’t shutoff. I manipulate the pedal a few times and it slows and eventually shuts off. Concerned that it may never shut off when not having a full hookup. Has come pretty close to not shutting off. Seems to be when hooked up to a water supply and not the pump. Any suggestions on how to handle this potential problem?

I would start with replacing the main o-ring gasket. If it is worn out. It will not completely seal and water will continue to run.

water shutoff

order a rebuild kit and take the toilet off the floor and put new seals in it. not hard just time. the kit comes with miner instructions.. you tube is the best,, you need the model number to order parts or a good supply store.
i did mine twice hard water causes it.

Sounds to me you may have 2 issues. 1) if the toilet sat “dry” for a period of time, the bayonet valve gasket in the base of the bowl may have dried out. Thetford makes a lube for that. 2) the city water pressure may be too high. I bought a regulator way back when I was at a site and the pressure blew 2 fittings. Your water pump is probably around 45 psi.

In any event the pedal works both the bayonet valve and the fill valve. If the bayonet valve doesn’t completely close the pedal along with the fill valve stay open.

One upgrade you may want to consider......

I've never had this issue but I installed a braided stainless steel water line with a quarter turn shut-off valve on my toilet. That way if a problem like yours ever develops, we don't have to shut off the water in the entire coach and the toilet can still be useable until I can fix the issue.

The 1st upgrade would be the shut off valve the Judge recommended.
The 2nd would be if it's a Thetford POS toilet replace it with a Dometic 310 or 320.
