Water tanks water level while driving?

New to this - do you typically try to keep water levels low while driving, do they slosh around or affect driving handling if the are too full?

In general waste tanks empty simply because then its ready for the next trip.

Water tank 2/3 to full depending on destination (if water hookup or not).

No need to worry about any sloshing.

If you drive erratically then sloshing of water could be an issue. Tanks do not have baffles so water will move around. The fuller the tank, the less sloshing. I typically travel with 1/3-1/2 fresh water and empty waste tanks unless I've been away from a dump site for a while. No sense in transporting waste. For fresh, carry what you need and don't worry about sloshing.

Welcome to the forum. I typically carry enough fresh water to get me to my next destination since I usually use city water hook ups at campgrounds. Some will say to always carry a full tank of fresh water because you don't know what may happen at the next destination and there maybe no water available.

Welcome to the forum - Keep in mind water weighs 8.3lbs per gallon so 50 gallons is 415lbs. Depending on your coach and if you are chugging up mountains or already loaded close to max you will feel the extra 400lbs. I run with 1/3 tank unless I know I'm going to a boondocking spot with no hook ups.

Let's face the truth: NONE of these things handle any better than a 300 pound hooker in a featherbed.
Slow down and take your time. You'll never notice that it's there...

Interesting analogy but most likely accurate!

Mine is full, unless I am leaving an area with known poor quality water, and no sloshing

The one thing I need every day is water

I run with a "convenience" load of 1/3 - 1/2 unless we are boondocking, then fill 'er up!

I think the egg came before the chicken.
I run alway full when starting my trip. Why, we have evacuated 3 times in 3 years for fires.
I figure I can at least make it anywhere for a week.
It’s one of those personal preferences.

I travel with 1/3 tank of fuel and no more due to weight, far less food than a situation may warrant, and 3 days of clothes for a 10 day trip.
I also carry only a relatively small piece of whatever map I think might be a life saver.

One is none.
Two is one.
1/3? How can it even be addressed.

Glass half full. Optimists are always disappointed.
Pessimists always have enough water.

Serve yourself, not some arbitrary weight limit or imaginary fuel savings,

I usually carry 25 gallons of fresh water and keep my black and grey tanks low as possible. I’ve found this works fine for me, no sense in carrying anymore weight than necessary.

I always travel with a full freshwater tank and about 3 GL plus treatment in the black tank. Prepared for everything that way.

Read your Yellow sticker, your coach is designed and rated to carry a full tank of water. If if had affect on driving and handling I would dump the RV not the Water. I never leave home unless the tank is full. I typically try to go to great lengths to not have to get fresh water elsewhere. But if I do and I connect a hose to my fill tank, I will not stop filling until it is full. Ironically to your question, when I get home I may drain whatever is left just to ensure fresh water for the next trip.

But what if you needed more fuel and ran out of gas? or if you get hungry and there are no restaurants / stores nearby? if you only have 3 days clothes for a 10 day trip, it means you must have washer machine so wouldn't you need more water? If you only have 1/3 map, how do you get back from the place you plan to travel to in the event you get lost?

There is lot to be learned from a Pessimist

It took me 3 months to get over that thread While I understand the question and different views, I never could get past the fact that some actually go through the trouble to connect a hose and purposely stop it at 1/3 full before a trip. I even think someone said they drain down to 1/3 tank? Maybe the latter would make sense if you were headed home on fairly short trip with campground water?

I agree. Why transport extra weight? Fuel is already too costly.

Exactly! That's why I only have 65 pounds in my spare tire instead of 90 because I don't want to carry around an extra 25 pounds.
