Entrance Door - Gas Prop

I replaced the gas prop on my entrance door because the old one fell off. I ordered a new one from amazon. The new one is TIGHT. Making door difficult to open and close.

Does anyone have a better idea?

Check the pounds on the gas prop and get one that is lower poundage.

Mine unsrews itself from swivel every 6 to 9 months, even with locktite on it. The rating is important. Higher = more resistance, lower less resistance.

Have you tried spraying some WD-40 on the slide arm to see if it will remedy your problem?

Thanks everyone...I believe I understand my problem now. I fell into the old trap that more must be better. So, I purchased the 80lb model.

I will reorder today.

Oh, I did use WD40...made a mess...DW not happy...Did not help.

we just removed ours all together, didn't like the fact that the door doesn't open all the way - now we just clip it into the latch I installed on the wall when we want it to stay open, leaving the screen door closed.

Ditto, DW hated that it wouldn't open fully.

Funny, mine opens all the way and I’m thinking I’d like to add the hold open arm!

We have the same problem as Muggs, every now and then it comes unscrewed and I also use locktite. Not that big a deal, screw back on with more locktite. Jim.

interesting.
It does bug me sometimes that it won't open all the way. I wish it would hold open 180° (or 90° when the awning is out)

I guess I prefer it like it is. Otherwise I'd need a manual hold open latch ... which would be a pain in the neck sometimes...

Wonder if you could describe the latch you used. Did you buy or fabricate? I might do the same, since my prop popped off during a storm that yanked the door out of my grip. Thanks.

Anyone know offhand the size of the main cabin door on a 2017 Thor Siesta sprinter? Need to order a new gas prop door support. Threads completely stripped on outside end.
